Really pleased to hear BIL (brother in law) has seen the light. Hopefully it will help with any other in law issues. The numbers are looking good too. Onwards and upwards - or do I mean downwards?

Thank you and I hope so too. :)

Your niece is bound to look up to you. You have got her through something which I suspect she was afraid would leave her embarrassed in front of all her school friends. I would just enjoy it and use it to help her to get even better. There is nothing like a teacher who inspires you to make you do better than you would normally.

    Thank you again. :)

She's a rather talented (and hard working) young girl who really loves her piano, which makes teaching her a pleasure. :) I don't accept "rubbish", yet know a child's limitations in musical interpretation; I think she respects the fact I don't just dole out stickers and say "well done" unnecessarily.

    Debts as of 21st November 2013: £24,201.40
Monthly Payments Since 2/9/13 Paid: £805
Money Saved towards paying my debts: £12,915.
Full and Final Settlements Paid: 1/4 (£2,291.14)
Yes, it all adds up ... somehow!

Slipped that change of sig in hoping no-one would notice did you ;).

Great going (though it doesn't add up :rotfl:- assume that's the F&F settlement reducing the debt?)

So, not that I like forensic accounting or anything, what is the 12.9k? Is that money available or have you paid the 2.3k settlement out of that so you actually have 10.6k?

Don't know if you've worked it out - but your debt has reduced by 25.06% since Sept. Which certainly deserves a woohoo-jumping-smiley-emoticon.gif. And probably a happy-dancing-elephant-smiley-emoticon.gif as well!
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

    That's fantastic Alex :)

If you approximate that you've saved a further £10k already to pay towards the debt, even if you don't get F&F settlements negotiated (which I think you will in at least one case), your total debt is down to under £15k! You've basically halved it in a couple of months.

Bet you never thought you could do that when you started this thread!

You'd be right, on both accounts. :)

Mara is right, I've paid the £2,300 settlement out of £12,900 making £10,600ish left as available funds. Thinking about the amount I managed to raise helps my motivation. :)

Thank you. :) (you must spend your days finding amusing :Ds, don't think I've ever seen so many). I worked out that I had 75% to go (not as precise as you).

You would be right, have a gold star. ;)

Fortunately most ended up being sold out of eBay.

No, didn't think I could do it at all. However, in my case getting debt free will likely not be the biggest challenge; that will be STAYING debt free. :o

Very true. But in raising enough money to pay back the debts, you've already started changing your habits. I'm hoping the long-term changes won't be as much work as you think...

You better, or we'll have words. Words, I tell thee! ;)

You are doing really well Alex, and I agree with those who say talk to your counsellor about your mum as soon as you feel ready. She does love you I would say - she's your mum after all - but her love seems awfully conditional.

Well done on getting through another session, and for only buying a coffee afterwards. Nobody enjoys counselling, it's a therapy not a hobby after all, but glad to hear you're going to stick with it :)

Great news re: your niece, there's something incredibly satisfying about something you taught bearing fruit, IMO.

I used to think lol stood for lots of love and people were declaring their love for me. Oooooo the embarrassment :o:o:o:o

And only a coffee after counselling. Are you feeling ok? Lol
