Afraid of the future

  • Will there be any equity left when the house has sold and the debts paid ? You need to make the most of your son whilst he still living with you.
Play nice  Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get me.:j

You have my sympathy. Having suffered from BPPV for a short time I know how awful it can be.

Since your house has just been sold I am presuming that you have some time to stay where you are until everything is sorted out.

During this time , if your son is unable to help and your social worker can't help, I would like to suggest that you get in contact with the Red Cross (http://www.redcross.org.uk/) for some support.

Certainly in my area they have volunteers who will visit to give help where needed. They also hire out equipment.

I am thinking that if you loaned a wheelchair you could (on one of your 'better' days) go and register at the council for housing and also visit some places for rent.

As already said you would be entitled to Housing Benefit and Council tax support if you are on income based ESA so financially (with your DLA) you would be OK, not rich but OK.

Going through a divorce, selling a house and feeling poorly must be very draining and stressful. One of these on its own is bad enough.

But, as others have said, you must try to be positive and look to the future. Lots of things can be done on the internet (looking at properties etc) so try to do as much as you can when you feel well enough.

Start with a trip to the local council and see how long they can estimate you would need to wait for a suitable property. In the meantime, look for a suitable 1 bed flat to rent privately. If you're so, that you can't cook, it may also be worth while getting an OT assessment done to see what home care may be available to you. Or even some aids that may help around the house. This part is a postcode lottery though. My mother who lives in the south of our borough, got very little help in the way of aids, my daughter who lived in the north got quite a few handy gadgets that have been invaluable to her. And things I may never have thought of that would help her.

I personally would call your local council and see if they have anyone to come out and visit you to make a housing application with you in your home. Some councils do, others don't. My daughter's housing officer was absolutely brilliant with her and sorted out all the housing application forms and the HB forms for her. It's worth a try :)

And again, because one person deals well with a particular problem doesn't mean another does. The OP was asking advice on his housing situation, not for medical advice. While I agree that this advice can be useful, it's not what the OP asked for.

    Good luck
