Outdoor Ceremony in Winter - Am I Mad?
Comments
-
I can see pros and cons to this. Our wedding day was in mid-December and the weather was glorious. The sun shone and it was fairly mild, and everyone had lovely coats and hats and scarves and I can imagine an outdoor ceremony would have been beautiful.
However, our ceremony was fairly long, and I think it might have got a bit chilly. You also have to account for the possibility of rain.
How flexible is the venue? Are they canny enough that they could switch to 'plan b' at a moment's notice? Could they provide things like extra blankets, patio heaters etc? Mulled wine and hot chocolate while the guests wait for you?
Don't rule out your lovely idea just yet, but do make sure that the venue could cope in the event of a sudden downpour, and that they will be able to keep your guests as comfortable as possible even if there is a delay.
Yes, the venue we're considering has a contingency plan for all outdoor weddings. Basically if it tips it down, the ceremony ships inside to a room that is already set-up. Thanks for the advice! xGetting married in Dec 2014 - Tiny Budget, [STRIKE]Big[/STRIKE] No Ideas0 -

I love the romantic idea of a winter wedding, snow coming down, everything white and pristine. Sadly, I imagine the British reality is somewhat different.
Couple of ideas:
1) Maybe unrealistic, but have the wedding somewhere you can guarantee the winter weather....Canada, maybe NYC.
2) Cheaper: Snow machine! Bit cheesy, but could make for some fun pictures0 -
See, now this is the cold* hard truth I think I may need to hear!
*no pun intended:)
You're welcome

I went to a winter wedding - which wasn't an outside event - but day was very cold and very sunny. Everything was coated in hoar frost and it was as if the world had been decorated especially for them. They had some wonderful photos done outside - it was quite magical.
Unfortunately, you can't book that sort of weather!
I wouldn't arrange a winter outdoor wedding in this country but perhaps the weather would be more certain in one of the scandinavian countries?0 -
How about asking one of the venues that already do "winter wonderland" settings? I think there are a few dotted around the country. Here for example:

You see what you've done there is write down exactly the mental torment that's in my head.

That is a great idea, but we've kinda already got our heart set on one venue in particular. It's a place called Wentbridge House Country House Hotel and they've just had the most gorgeous outdoor folly built in the grounds for wedding ceremonies.
We'd were staying there when they had their first outdoor ceremony and it was the most magical setting I've ever seen - fell instantly in love!
Can't post links as I'm new but if you search for their site there's a photo on there. xGetting married in Dec 2014 - Tiny Budget, [STRIKE]Big[/STRIKE] No Ideas0
