MK is a little batty, yes - and not of her advice translates well to the UK (am thinking of papers - we need to keep more than she suggests - but probably far less than we actually do) The basic principle is sound, though
I have OH and DD on board with it here, just by 'osmosis' for want of a better description. Neither has read (or will) read the book, but the 'joy' concept resonates with both - and OH loves having his tshirts and boxers folded and filed upright!

You're welcome, Watty, I'm glad its helpful. And your time out with Most Handsome sounds fantastic :j:j:j
I like the whole kondo approach too, though it hasn't had quite the impact for me as it has for others, the focus and the concepts are really helpful. I **saw** my books yesterday, in the bookcase I eventually want to downsize from: I have four books on writing - doing interviews, plots, a writing course, characterisation. And they're all from before the internet was bornso they say, for instance, "don't handwrite your submission" there's one thats signed by the author, so I'll see if anyone wants to buy that, but the rest are going to the chazzer, as soon as I can!

This MK declutter much harder than it sounds! Keep only that which sparks joy is difficult! Removing everything from wardrobe shocked me. What a huge pile of stuff.. Clearly I am not frugal :rotfl: I could not believe how much there was, particularly as I often think I have nothing to wear. The truth of that is that actually a lot of it does not fit my lifestyle.
Two bags to go to charity shop so far and one out in the recycling today. Briefly thought about bay of e but have decided only to list one skirt and one belt (both of which are upmarket labels).
Wardrobe gaps identified and have purchased one plain cardigan on line (as all cardigans will be leaving) and a strapless bra. Will only keep if they are joys!
Also I could declutter a stone in weight. I kept some things that should fit but do not but that I did love and let the rest that did not fit go.
I think the wardrobe may need another pass later in the process. Riding clothes and shoes still to be done.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Have signed up for the clothing challenge. Went into town today and thought would pop into a shop and get some socks, then remembered I had lots and why store them when the shop can do that for me till I really need them.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

I think virtually everyone does a second (or third, or fourth...) pass on clothes
As they're the first category I don't think one's 'joy-meter' is fully engaged and so a second pass a bit further down the line is good

OK maybe she is not quite as batty as she seems. I decided to ask the house to help with storage like she suggests and as I was sorting the shoes I suddenly thought of somewhere to store some business stock parts currently taking up space in a bedroom. There is a cubby hole behind the saddles that are stored under the stairs. Perfect for office stock parts. :jMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
