Ask on freecycle for any free printer. People throw them away when they discover the cost of genuine inks exceeds the original cost of the printer....then you get it and buy the non genuine ink or toner for cheap.Hmm, thanks guys, the one in the link, is about 70, can anyone recommend please, something similar, but under 50£, a bit hard pressed for funds at the moment, but really need this for the odd occasion.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Does it need to be wireless. Can get canon all in one inkjet for £30 from argos or if wireless is required, then £40 from argos again. But as said, would need to print a page off every week or 2 weeks to stop getting clogged up.
Do you have broadband, if so what router do you have, just as some of the new routers tend to have USB to allow external hard drives and printers to be used as wireless. Could save a tenner if your's support thatMansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
if you're happy with black and white, go straight for a laser.
Samsung ML series are low cost and will be perfect for light use. Although the build quality is super cheap - reflected in the price to be honest.
I am going to buy the Samsung ML2165W soon. The wifi models are just £10-£20 more than the cabled ones. It's worth buying the wifi printers because it makes it very convenient and you can store the printer in a broom cupboard somewhere.0 -
Seconding the suggestions to drop the requirement for wireless and to buy a cheap or second hand laser. (Mine's from 1993, still going strong)
Just sit it next to your router and hook it up with a cable.0 -
wireless will definately future proof the device and be very flexible. People have more and more laptops, tablets these days. A wired only printer will restrict you to only be able to print from 1 computer - at a stretch maybe connect the printer to your wifi router and make it wireless through that.
However, that is quite technical and requires a bit of knowhow to get right.
I would spend a bit more and get a wifi enabled model.0 -
Over budget to start with but with reduced ongoing costs, with the advantage of cheaply resolving possible blocks due to infrequent use.

Take the option for the cartridges and the inks
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Refillable-Cartridge-Printers-Without-Compatable/dp/B00B8WW796
Total outlay £63.97
The cartridges will hold 10ml of ink so you will be able to refill complete sets approximately 10 times for £3.99.
If you get a blockage which head cleans do not fix, then you can syringe the ink out of the cartridge which is linked to the blocked nozzles in the printer, and replace the ink with head cleaning fluid.
Run a couple of head cleans, print a nozzle check, if still blocked, leave for an hour, run a head clean then print a nozzle check, and so on until the nozzles are clear.
Then replace the ink.
With infrequent use, you can print a nozzle check each week, which will probably keep the ink flowing correctly, and you can print at least 4 nozzle checks per sheet simply by turning it over.
To be very MSE, cut the printed parts off and keep turning the paper over.
If you do not want to run the weekly nozzle check, then try the printer the day before you need it, in case you have to unblock any nozzles.0 -
Okay, read the other threads, and didn't quite find a thread, closely related to my requirements. Am after a wireless all in one printer to print black and white, on the odd occasion at under 50 pages a year please?. When I say best, I mean in terms of runningcosts, the ink, cause this can be very high, and I don't mind getting my hands dirty, with refills etc thanks.
All in ones are a bit of a gimmick, do you actually use a scanner much? If not just get this laser.

I heard the cartridge can be modified to take toner powder refills.0 -
with the best will in the world its never going to happenWith infrequent use, you can print a nozzle check each week,
Laser is the only option in this use case
use the cheap Samsungs myself
but this one is cheap if nothing else - LINK0 -
Good morning guys, as usual you guys have all come in and been very helpful. Have had some more thought, and clearly I don't require the scanner aspect of printing, as indeed it is a gimmick. Usually when I have had stuff that required scanning I have just used my phone to take the pictures. However the wireless part is very essential for me. Preferably would want to buy this from argos, as have a argos voucher as well.0

why is wireless essential
a usb laser is the obvious choice.!!
