We're being home checked by CP next week. Can anybody who has adopted a cat from CP advise what sorts of things they are looking for?

I have done home checks ( and received one ) not CP but for a dog rescue. They aren't looking for anything as such, basically the main point is to meet you face to face, have a chat about your wants and what you have to offer the cat/dog, what your routine/family life is like etc so that they can match a suitable cat/dog up with you .
Don't worry too much, unless you have wall to wall locked cages filled with animals then chances are you will be just fine
Good luck0 -
One thing they'll consider is if you live near a main road. They won't let me have a cat for just this reason. When I eventually decide to take another cat(s) it'll have to be from pre loved or something unless CP have any house cats.

Weird, I've had 2 cats from CP and never had a home inspection? The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

I had a home inspection from CP before we got our kittens from them. They came out, had a bit of a chat to me and both kids, and approved us there and then. They didn't even see the cat we already had (she was out somewhere), and weren't bothered about us being on a main road, although I had to sign a statement saying I wouldn't let the cats out until they were 12-18 months old. They were here for about 15 minutes altogether.0

I expect it's a matter of where you live and how over-run with cats they are! It was 10 years ago that they refused us. They did let us have older house cats eventually but they didn't do a home check and weren't bothered about our dog. Maybe it's all changed now.

The branch who have the cat we're interested in are so over-run they've closed their waiting list, but still want to check us.
We're not near a main road, don't have kids or other pets and I work from home. TBH if they turn us down for a cat, I can't think that anybody would be suitable, but it's still a little unnerving none the less.
Our previous cat was from the RSPCA. I answered a few questions over the phone, visited them, picked a cat and took it home the same day!Make £2026 in 2026

We recently had a home check for our 14 year old rehome with 'issues', she is mega aggressive at times and unpredictable!
We also had a lot of information from her foster carer including a pretty full history - this has helped us a lot in managing her behaviour.
Though we thought we 'knew it all', we did not, and had to do a lot of research about handling her behaviour, she hid for a long time when she came here and was subsequently very defensive and nervous. She has now been with us for 4 months and tends to get aggressive now when 'crossed' (eg when she is sitting in husband's chair and he wants to sit there and will growl and spit)
Not a suitable cat for the unwary or those with young children but can be very loving and cuddly. Also very needy and I would be reluctant to leave her.
Hats off to CP, they prepared us well and gave us a lot of support, I would say the home check is necessary especially due to the history of some of their cats.
Good luck, go for it!0 -
