Consumer Rights re. Event Tickets

Hi,
I am wondering if anybody can help me with where I stand legally on event tickets where the advertised event was essentially cancelled.
Basically, I purchased tickets in March for a racecourse 'music night'. This was supposed to be (advertised as) horse racing followed by a music performance.
On the day of the event the artist cancelled. As a result we weren't interested in going watching the racing on its own, however the racecourse refused to refund tickets, stating that because racing was still going ahead only a partial refund is applicable.
But surely as people purchased tickets on the basis of it being a racing event followed by a concert if they are unable to provide both a full refund should have been offered to those that wanted one?
The racecourse are stating in their terms and conditions they are not obliged to offer any refund, however I'm not sure how compatible this is with statutory consumer rights/false advertising, given that the event advertised (and the basis on which people purchased their tickets) did not go ahead?

I believe if the event still went ahead you can't get a refund. There are regulations that say if the understudy takes the place of the main act you are not liable for a refund.

There is no understudy so your post is irrelevent.
In this case you would be entitled to a full refund as the event is no longer as described.0 -

But the event did not go ahead, there was no music performance whatsoever.0 -
If they advertised it as a "music night" and there was none, then they have no leg to stand on.
Send a letter before action, then sue if they say neigh.
Such behaviour does not behoove a professional companyOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -
Strictly speaking, if it was advertised as horse racing and show, and they provided horse racing, it is still /partly/ as described...
To be fair the headline advertisement was actually 'Rita Ora Music Night'.

Sadly not true and I feel for the OP.
The music is an aspect of an event. The event went ahead but with an altered schedule. Therefore no refund is required to be offered.
"Not as described" is not relevant in these situations.0 -
Also this says you could receive a partial refund for the music part being cancelled.

Ignore I see they've offered this already!0 -

Do you have any links to legal wording which supports this?
I find the advice re.event tickets conflicting which is why I came on here, but surely companies arent just allowed to advertise any event they want to attract customers, cancel it, and then say because a bit of it still went ahead its OK.
That would essentially leave the door open for companies to have carte blanche to advertise what they want?0
