What do other insomniacs do?

I'm not really an insomniac but if I do have the occasional spell of not sleeping well I love to listen to 'up all night' on 5Live or the world service on Radio 4, both start after 1 a.m.... it's great being tucked up in bed listening to all these obscure stories and reports from around the world that I'd otherwise never get to hear.0

May I ask those of you who are either insomniacs or just don't sleep a lot - do you then have a nap in the day instead?
I find if I can't sleep or am up very early, if I can I like a little siesta!!0 -

If I had a nap I wouldn't sleep at all at night.. . .I did not speak out
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me..

God, I hate insomnia!
Normally I try and watch some TV, or read a book. But in the past I've done things that were on my mind - I wrote my bridesmaids speech at 4 in the morning the week before my sisters wedding when I couldn't sleep. Sometimes I draw as well as I find that really relaxing.£2023 in 2023 challenge - £17.79 January0 -

I sometimes get to the stage I can't stay awake a minute longer but wake up again after 10 minutes. I try to walk round to keep awake till it passes though or i feel even more tired.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
Even though I need very little sleep between 3/4hrs I do need the to rest another 3/4hrs so am in bed a good 8hrs, no dropping off in the day and always feel refreshed so what sleep I do get is right for me.0

I've had terrible periods of poor sleep at times, particularly when I was going through a stressful time in my life. I usually read a book whilst trying not to disturb OH. Couldn't get up when we had a cat as I'd wake him up and he'd start shouting downstairs and wake OH.
I can honestly say that I never ever wake up feeling 'refreshed' even if I'm not suffering from insomnia, it's even worse if I am.Make £2026 in 2026

I'd settle for two sleep segments with an awake period in the middle. Especially an "active" one

My sleeping patterns aren't too bad at the moment, but I have suffered from insomnia in the past, mostly linked to stressful periods in my life.
If I wasn't able to sleep, I would read, or just lay there trying to get some sleep. I'd normally fall into a deep sleep about an hour before I was due to get up.
Like Slinky, I never feel refreshed in the morning, even if I have had a good nights sleep.
I'd love to be able to jump out of bed and be full of beans, but I tend to be very sluggish first thing in the morning.Early retired - 18th December 2014
