What do other insomniacs do?

Unfortunately I take after my father and I'm often awake when I'd much rather be asleep. Very occasionally I'll be up all night - I'm hoping tonight isn't going to be one of those nights.
I've heard of people doing housework in the middle of the night. There's plenty to do but I'd waken OH and daughter who is home tonight.
What do other people do when they just can't sleep?

Then they came for me

Listen to music, type crap on forums, that kind of thing.........
I find as I get a bit older 30's, I don't need as much sleep now anyway. Good job really as my kids throw my pattern out.0 -
Watch rubbish tv, read (and sometimes post) rubbish online, sometimes I bake (things that don't require use of any noisy equipment)Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0

Read, clean, bake and watch !!!!! on tv, until your a proper insomniac, you have no idea how addictive Nigerian Idol and some guy in a dodgy sweater painting landscapes can be!0

Interesting that 2 out of 3 of you bake.
And we're agreed that TV through the night is !!!!!! - but still watch it.. . .I did not speak out

I'm lucky enough to normally be a really good sleeper but tonight I have jet lag and have been awake since 2am. After reading this thread I am soooo tempted to bake!
I have just sorted out the freezer instead, and am now going to sit down in front of an episode of something on TV with a warm drink and hope to feel sleepy. I don't envy you people who deal with this all the time, a couple of times a year after travelling is more than enough!

They come on here -lol. It's my own fault, I drank coffee late on. Thought I'd get away with a liquor one as I have in the past. Think the alcohol must cancel the caffeine effects out but wasn't to be.:(0

I can get to sleep really easily, but I do not sleep for very long and so I am posting this at the start of my day.
I will read, listen to music or podcasts on my iPod, do the ironing, sometimes cook, knit, cuddle up to the cat on the settee. During the summer I will also garden. I can be weeding or pruning at 6am in the morning ( we live in the middle of nowhere so no one can hear me).0 -

Same here, no problem dropping off but can't sleep for more than a couple of hours. I either come down and browse the net/ enter competitions/ read forums and knit or crochet, or stay in bed reading my nook.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
I'm regularly either still awake at 2am or have woken up by 4am. I read, watch telly, play silly games on my iPad, wait for the update of Next on their clearance page, sometimes I iron, post on forums, just generally faff around until I feel tired again. This morning I have been awake since 4..........I have to be at work at 10......sigh......0
