In your case you`re absolutely correct.
JLP have let you down and it is entirely their responsibility to make sure you get the goods
Not the delivery firm because they are mealy JLP agents.

JLP must take the full blame.

I have bought two TV`s from JLP and both were delivered on time and without a hitch.
I have also phoned their tech dept. with a query and got excellent advice.

My point was that JohnLewis are generally better than other retailers, who all make mistakes of course as they are only human. My issue was with "veryintrigued" saying that he wouldn't be rushing to use them again based only on this (to my mind) minor inconvenience.
Changing the delivery address after initial purchase is in my experience always problematical, whoever you shop with.

Update here.

Local store matched JL price and was able to guarantee a delivery slot of 2 hours.

They also matched the 5 year guarantee.

Definitely a lesson learned here.

Thanks again for the advice on the models - that really was a help.
