Turning right: do you indicate left or right at this junction?

I know this junction and the one joining the main road in the other direction. You need a double jointed neck to use it. It always makes me nervous when I cycle past , in case the drivers do not see me.

What a horrible road. I'd definitely indicate right.
  • I don't think I would go that way, probably because my neck no longer swivels through 180 degrees like an owl !

I would certainly indicate right, but you can kind of see why somebody might indicate left even though turning right - they'd see it as they're moving over to the left side of the road and ignore the fact they're at a junction. People can think like that.
Reminds me of somebody I knew who had just got a new car many years ago, and the indicator stick was switched over from one side to the other compared to her old car, lets say it's from the right to the left side of the steering wheel. When it was pointed out that she was consistently indicating the opposite way to the turn, she said "Isn't it up for left and down for right then?"
Not everybody sees everything the same way...:)

To be honest, as the road approaching the T junction is a lot higher than the road it joins, you can quite easily see if there is anything coming and generally you just need to slow down to about 20mph and just straight line the whole junction.

I wonder if the planners sorted all that out on a night out and they were all half cut.

Makes you question the wisdom really.

  • I would indicate for a right turn ,but I would put my full left hand lock on just after the kerb on the left then I would be able to see traffic like a normal junction without straining my head ,I do drive a van so you tend to position yourself for the best view of the roads as you don't have side windows to look out off.

It's a T junction, so you should indicate left for turning left where the blue corsa is going, right to go (almost) straight on (but you are turning right on to the road in front of you so need an indication).

I'm with graham.senior - I would follow the dotted line in the centre, to swing round to form a 'T' if I can - to give best vision right & left - indicating right if that's where I'm going - starting from as near to the dotted line as possible, or left, if I'm following the Corsa being more to the left hand side.
