New build not connected to fibre optic network

Hoping someone here can either help me or point me in the right direction as google has failed me.
After 3 months and many call outs and long distance calls from Virgin i found out my home of 2 years (a new build of about 4 years) isn't connected to the fibre optic network.
My question is is it possible to get it connected, possibly with a fee or something?
I know others on the same street who were able to get fibre optic so i'm hoping someone knows how (if possible) i can too.

Call outs by who ? Virgin? Well what did they say?
You can only get virgin or bt fibre if your in an enabled area? Are you in one?0 -
Are you referring just to VM cable service, or to FTTC (BT-based fibre)?
FFTC wasn't around 4 years ago. FTTC gives you fibre to the cabinet, not to the property. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I lived in a new build, built in 2009. That wasn't connected to a fibre enabled cabinet either.
If you're not in a fibre enabled area, you're not in a fibre enabled area unfortunately. Nothing you can do can make them provide a FTTC connection.
Check the BT Infinity website to find out when your exchange/cabinet will be upgraded.0 -
Are Virgin media extending their network at all these days?
There predecessor Diamond Cable / NTL. layed their pipes and street furniature around our estate 15 years ago, but never completed the work. I doubt they would find it economic to do so now. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
NTL/Telewest/Virginmedia are no longer expanding their network, and haven't done so in quite some time now.
They stopped to concentrate on bringing in more customers onto their existing network, rather than spend money on expanding to new areas.0 -

They have done small extensions in areas that are already cabled up but they haven't expanded to any new areas for years because it got them into so much debt.0 -
Ahh that sucks, i was just aware that other people in my town and even less than a street away were getting 45mb+ on virgin and was hoping the reason i couldn't was just because my home was a relatively new build and i might be able to pay them to connect me.
Guess i'm stuck with sky 8mb connection. Sad news is sad.
Edit: In fact i just checked on uswitch streetmap of speedtest results and someone 2 streets from me is on 120mb with Virgin, this is so stupid.0 -

Use Samknows website to check for services available from your exchange:-

It says FTTC status: Available in some areas
Trying to make sense of this, thanks for the helpful replies.0
