London: have exhausted all the usual tourist sites. Any ideas what we can do?

  • You can ask your MP to arrange you a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament for free. Did this a few years ago and was very impressed with it. Very money saving too. :-)

Hi Golden Anemone! Glad you enjoyed your visit to Parliament!

Just to add - might be a bit late for you OP - but if booking via an MP for a tour of Parliament it is best to book as far in advance as possible - if you are only in London for the day we also do guided tours on Saturdays and some weekdays but there is a fee involved.

Obviously if they are debating (like today) - you can go in and watch the MPs debating from the Public Gallery - this is completely free.

    Hope this helps?
    Best wishes

  • Columbia Road Flower Market (sundays only) is fantastic. Also the ice-cream parlour in Fortnum and Mason is pretty impressive (if they like ice-cream of course)

If they are agile and into "something different", you could take them indoor skydiving at the Wind tunnel at Bedford called Bodyflight. Bedford is approx 50mins by train from Kings Cross. I've taken my parents and they loved it

HMS Belfast is really interesting - I did it for the 1st time 3 weeks ago - and was very impressed.

Have they been to the theatre? "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Matilda" are both fairly new and very well done

The London walks are quite good, we went on the Crime and Punishment tour (£9 each) last week, the company does different tours but they all look fascinating.
The Bank of England museum was rather good we ended up spending 2 hours there and its free.
Also visited Greenwich and went on a tour from the tourist information centre, conducted by the Greenwich tourist guide association which was very interesting. cost £8 each.
https://www.visitlondon.com has some suggestions and if you follow them on twitter they will sometimes come up with suggestions you never thought of doing
  • Hey! Have you thought about taking them to the West End for a good theatre show? Maybe take them to see Phantom of the Opera or something like Matilda or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which is a little more light hearted... ? :)
    Love London Theatre :rotfl:
  • A meal and drinks at Harts Boatyard, Kingston. (Google it as I can't post a link.)

It overlooks the Thames. Nice view whether sunny or raining.

Bank of England have a museum, worth popping in if you're passing.
Or if you're interested in automated music players(!) this is a real gem
