Thanks for all the replies everyone. I've just got in so I've only had a quick browse and plan to look in more detail tomorrow. Some great suggestions tho! Like the idea of a walk and theres some great museums listed.

Are they interested in Egyptian objects. I only found the Petrie Museum last year. It's in the University College London and is free to visit. It has over 80,000 exhibits and me and OH found it very interesting.

I want to visit the Jewish Museum next which I think sounds interesting and Dennis Severs House which sounds very different.

Other things to do:- Duck tour, cable car over Thames, guided walk, boat trip, Shakespeare's Globe,

I've never been to the British Library but my sister went recently and enjoyed it.

I know you say you have done the markets but, depending what days they will be visiting, have you been to Columbia Road Flower Market?

I'd second that - we did that for my cousin's 60th birthday. We were a party of 10, ages 45 - 70, and we loved it

Also, what about The View From The Shard, or a tour of the Houses of Parliament

  • Churchill War Rooms is great.

Last night I went to Regents Park Open Air Theatre to see The Sound of Music (on until the 14th of Sept) and it was fantastic, I'd definitely go again next summer.

I agree 60 is the new 40s so why not do something different and energetic...

Brixton Market - an amazing multi-cultural feast off the beaten track, music, carribean and great street food, lots of atmosphere, galleries etc, you can then go to the Brockwell Park nearby a lovely serene South London gem of a space. End at the Ritzy Cinema for some live accoustic music and great food or an unusual film all within a stones throw from the Victoria line.

Failing that check out Limbo currently at the Southbank.

Hope that will keep them young at heart!

War rooms, I went 3 years ago - wonderful
Imperial War Museum is so fascinating I have been twice and planning to go again.
If they like shopping either of the two huge Westfield shopping centres. White City/Shepherds bush is a little more upmarket than the one at Stratford/Olympic Park.
