Doubt they would add water and then complain.
Pigment is colour, I don't see that as being debated, the colour is right, its the coverage thats the issue...0 -
Well if you have already done two coats, that's 45 sq.m., and it sounds like you still have some paint left... "I now don't have enough paint to do a third coat", I think you are applying the paint much too thinly.
If your room is 20sq m, then the tin should just allow for two coats.
It does seem that the coats were too thin...it all depends on the type of wall s/he is painting it on. How long they waited to recoat.
It is never a great idea to paint, over paint. You don't know the quality of paint or what is under the paint unless you did it yourself.
I'm sure the guarantee will have some kind of disclaimer about it being a guide and it is dependant on surface.
EDIT
X POSTS! As I thought, refund I would bite their hands off too...0 -

With some paints the pigment/sediment will settle at the bottom of the tin, so what you get above is just like a thick milky solution, so you need to stir the paint so it thickens. so if just using straight from tin without stirring will be just like painting the walls with milk
I trained for 3 years after leaving school as a painter/decorator until i had a accident which prevents me from climbing ladders/step ladders, so i had to give up any chance of making painting/decorator a career.0 -

TBH, I thought everyone knew you had to stir paint as it is clear it all settles with a lot of them!0 -

Yes, but like I said, that would have had a thread about how 'the colour isn't a match to the outside of the tin' not a coverage issue.
You're certainly a jack of all trades, nearly every thread I see you in has you saying you used to do x or y

You will be surprised how many people dont stir paintstinkerbell28 wrote: »TBH, I thought everyone knew you had to stir paint as it is clear it all settles with a lot of them!0 -
I definitely didn't add water to the paint! And I love the colour. Would have been delighted if even the two coats had covered perfectly. I think having to do 3 is taking the pee though.

i trained as a painter/decorator as a school leaver, but after an accident damaged my left knee had to give this up, so went into retail and IT which i am still doing.
but my jobs have nothing to do with this thread or any thread.0 -
I think you might have some grounds for complaint, but I wouldn't know how they should compensate you, as they cant come and check the wall and they have to take your word for it.
I would be more than happy for them to come and inspect my patchy walls.
If they don't want to do that I can just show them my photos. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
yes i would ask for a refund under their guarantee.gunsandbanjos wrote: »I definitely didn't add water to the paint! And I love the colour. Would have been delighted if even the two coats had covered perfectly. I think having to do 3 is taking the pee though.

Been a home brand it would be a lower quality than a main brand and would have needed stirring before using.
were you applying on
a painted plastered wall
a painted wallpapered wall
a painted textured wall
as these would make a difference in coverage0
