I know nothing about how JSA is paid/stopped, but how can a situation like this be allowed to happen ? Surely there is a process in place to ensure a smooth transition from the final JSA payment to the receipt of first wages without a money-less gap in the middle ? Does this happen to everyone that gets a job after being on JSA ?

Here's the thing. My jsa was cut off because i had to leave a job i had when i could no longer afford the taxi fares to and from everyday. The job centre said my reasons for leaving weren't justified even though i was actually working to be to get to work each day!

I can't speak for anyone else, but I've never found the wait from final jsa to work payday easy. Especially when a job pays monthly, you'd have to stretch 2 weeks of jsa to last probably 6 weeks!

Ask your local minister at your local church? They wouldn't let you starve - maybe offer to refund once paid?

I thought about this, but even with the offer of refunding, I'd feel like a hypocrite just for asking! I'm not religious and couldn't turn to the church no because I've never bothered with it in the past and wouldn't after their help. Does that make sense?

Just ask. If you feel like a hypocrite then pay double back

Please don't think like this. Churches are for everyone not just the members and in many ways it's the non-members who need it most as you've shown here. I'm sure they will be glad to help and would be upset tif they found out later. :(

It will be on a case by case basis so worth a shot. They can supply you with food vouchers if you meet the criteria, they do not give out money but will do vouchers. I work in the same office as my LA's social fund team and its worth a shot for you.

Thank you. I have emailed them explaining the situation.

I'm not deliberately being awkward with this! :-) all suggestions are appreciated. Thank you everyone who has replied and not been harsh in their answers! :-)

  • Hi all, just an update- one of my work colleagues who is training me picked up on a few things. Apparently, I'd been looking worse as the days went on. He sat me down and asked a few questions. After realising the situation i was in, the small team i work with clubbed together and gave me a few quid to stock up to last until payday. I'll be forever grateful for that.

Thank you again to all who replied with suggestions. Also much appreciated. :-)
