Because people moan if they're left on the main board after they've ended. The BG's can't win, can they?0 -
I am so behind am only doing them on the evening they expire and wondered where the hell they went last night.
Appreciate all the work that is normally done by the BG's but this was a stupid decision and hope it doesn't become the norm.0 -

I agree Kirri
It's not the first, second or third time it's happened recently so it's not extenuating circumstances which lead to this.0 -

yes but I just want someone to explain why it's better that live comps are moved rather than leaving expired ones on the board for a short period of time.
For other people working or busy in the day, evenings might be a chance to catch up on last minute comps.
Just asking.0 -

It's not better. It's necessary (I assume).0 -
I've only been managing to go through the remaining ones that finish each evening for a few weeks now.
I know a lot of the twitter competitions finish earlier 4pm and such, so if people mark it as closed and please expire- and everyone makes an effort to move them to go it wouldn't create so many to move.
I understand that the BG's are volunteers with limited time- we are grateful, but lots of us have limited time too and it doesn't help having to search for the competitions that are still open for entries among those that have finished.0 -
I could have sworn I read somewhere official (I thought it was in the comping guide but can't find it) that BG's may move competitions ending that day before midnight due to their availability etc... as people have said (unless I have dreamt this which would be just odd).
I have to say, although I do understand why it happens, that I would prefer that comps hung about on the board for even a couple of days after they had finished rather than be removed early (I understand that many people won't agree).
I just think that it's better for the comps to stay on the board a little longer than to be removed prematurely (I know they are still their in GO but as people have said you then have to work out which have finished early and which haven't).
But hey ho, if that's the the way it is, that's the way it is and I have to say I think the board guides and everyone who helps out on here are brilliant and everything pretty much runs smoothly which I think is amazing for such a large and continuously moving forum.0 -
I know the answer is probably already on here somewhere but what is the big deal with moving comps into GO?
Wouldn't it only get confusing on the main board when there were two years worth of comps? I mean when E: 01/01 could be for more than one 1st Jan.
Why is there a thread all about moving expired comps? If the BGs can do loads at once why not say do them once a week say in arrears. That way live comps wouldn't get moved if the title has the correct date.Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.
Virtuous action, now, at this very moment.

the only way to make everyone is happy is for a BG to stay up every night until midnight and move them on the dot!

It would be significantly less irritating to put up with expired comps on the board than to have them moved before end date compers have had chance to enter them though..
Plus there are quite a few people offering to help on the BG thread, most probably including some that are night owls if there is a need to move them as soon as they expire. Not that they need to be moved *that* quick..
I hope this isn't happening again tonight??0
