Sounds to me like one of your family members, who is now out of the country, was driving ;)

Strangely enough the courts find that excuse not particularly compelling, especially when every other person up in front of them has the same dishonest relatives or friends.

Stilll, if OP can show that these people were fully insured, perhaps provide copies of the paperwork he checked re insurance, and also provides an address and flight details they might be more sympathetic.

It is worth remembering that the penalty for not naming a driver, or for allowing someone to drive without insurance is more than the fixed penalty for speeding.

Seriously get over to the site I linked, they will give you the actual requirements and info you need, don't delay as the clock is ticking to provide the info required.

One of you do the speed awareness course and split the cost of it 4 ways

Isn't this just the usual 3 points and £60 fine?

Yes I've been to the site, thanks!

I'm just going to submit the form and take whatever they give me.

My wife and I are fully covered to drive the car and the other two were fully covered (i.e. fully comp. insurance and covered third party for other cars).

Problem I have now is which address to put down? I'm assuming I need to put in my current/new address.

It's gone up to 3 points and £100 for offences committed since mid August (can't remember the exact date off the top of my head).

A speed awareness course is somewhere in the region of £80-100 depending on the area and takes half a day of your time, but means no points and you don't usually have to tell your insurer - though a few insurance companies (Admiral spring to mind) have started to ask about them. Whether you choose the course or the fixed penalty is your decision.

If you're unsure I do suggest that you ask to see the photo before you nominate yourself though - if you name yourself and the photo shows someone who clearly isn't you (eg a female driver) it could make life more complicated than it needs to be.

Completely different circumstances. In the case you link to the person named was an imaginary person and did not exist.

Read the OP's account above, it is family members who are involved.

So either way I'm paying between £80 to £100 and getting either 3 points on my license or a speed awareness course.

I'll ask about a photo but how does it work? I ask then they send it out to my old address which takes another 2 - 5 days to arrive at my new address? Then I respond and fill in the form (i.e. it was me/my wife/my family)? I'm concerned as the letter is dated the 23rd, its already the 28th so that gives me till the 20th of September.

Will they post to my new address if I explain the situation? I thought the police dont like hard work? :D:D:D

this case had a ficticious person relaing to it.

this case the OP can just ask relative to provide their insurance details via e-mail, provide the flight number and country or province they reside in with a real to name the person that may have commited the offence.

in that case the person didnt even provide his mexican friends details at all.

Good old GBT.... you do this or else!

    (Great British Thuggery)

Great British Thuggery? The other option is let people off the hook when they 'can't remember who was driving'.
Use some common sense. What's the other option?
