  • Had three estate agents round to give valuations of our house before putting it on the market. They offered different rates 0.9%, 2.5% and 1.25% although the highest one did come down to 1.25% when queried! Our house was valued around £205k in Portsmouth.

It would be interesting to learn what is the highest and lowest that Estate Agents around the country charge for selling properties

We are thinking of going with Halifax who charge 1.5% in West Yorkshire

Sometimes I have been browsing through the EE websites in London like Faron Sutaria/Foxtons etc and thought they may be charging more with all their interactive websites with a 360 degrees view of the room etc.

    Thanks
I've found it can vary from 0.5 per cent to your mental stability, really.

But seriously, it varied from 2 per cent to 1 per cent in London, where I'm selling. But they all came down when I asked how much would it be for multiagency so that I would do sole agency.

It varies tremendously. In Cambridge 1% can be quite typical, though often more for the posher agents, but just up a bit into the sticks around Wisbech it rockets to 2.5 or 3 % as standard.

I'm in Cardiff and we were quoted 1% but a really low valuation, 1.5% but you have to use their conveyancing services and 1.75% and 1.85%.
We opted for the 1.75% based on recommendations from others and a lower tie in time...
When I lived in Newport it was much easier to negotiate with the EA but in Cardiff they seem to stick to their prices and thats that. Unless Im just rubbish at negotiation

You can put it on for whatever you want? If someone is 1% then go with them and put it on for the higher value. The same people will see it???
