Being vegan simply means to not consume animal products. Vegans become vegans for all sorts of reasons. It has nothing to do with the eating habits of animals looked after by vegans.
If you are talking about the ethical veganism philosophy, then there will be some vegans who feed their omnivorous pets a herbivorous diet. Some go as far as feeding cats such - but ethical vegans in general argue amongst themselves over that. The only time I think a cat should be fed as such is in the really rare cases that the cat turns away it's natural diet - there have been a few cases, albeit rare as I said.
And it should always be done with extremely high education with regards to nutrients etc. And several vet checks along the way.
As it is though, the pet food industry is not what the meat industry relies on for it's profits. After all, the meat industry is only there because humans demand it, not the animals. The pet food industry, for the most part, has the crap that would otherwise just be thrown away in the slaughterhouse.0 -
At what point did a thread about animals produced for human consumption become suitable for a board about pets?
It's not particularly relevant.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

Totally agree. Should be on DT, if anywhere.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

I assume OP posted on Pets Board as he/she assumed the people reading care about animals0 -

But not all animals = pets.
And many pet owners can differentiate.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

I can absolutely differentiate if you're aiming that at me but I don't only care about pets, I care about the welfare of all animals.
If you were a vet as you claim, then I would hope you do too.0 -
Walwin - could not have worded it any better , exactly how I feel.0

Did not want to post on DT for obvious reasons.
Some people keep farm animals as pets. And sometimes they kill said pets. Or eat the eggs of pet chickens. So it's quite relevant. As is the fact that people should not differentiate between the suffering of a pig and that of a dog. The suffering of either is inexcusable.
And why did 'they' edit this post for 'language'? I did not use any offensive words at all. Someone clearly has a chip on their shoulder!0 -
I for one found your thread interesting, I am a dog owner but like all/most animals (well wasps might be stretching it) and although I couldn't see myself becoming a vegetarian or beyond, I would like to be kept informed on the welfare of farm animals.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0

No, I meant it as in this is the PET board and not the place for discussion about farm animal welfare. That is for DT.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
