If you have access to a search engine you will see that you are incorrect.

It wouldn't be the first time; I think I would have an incredibly hard time persuading my cats to eat tofu for protein though!

There have been cases of vegans stopping feeding cats meat and as a result the cats end up very ill as they need the taurine (think that's the right word!) that they get from the meat.

Of course, a cat is an obligate carnivore. I just query how vegans/vegetarians feed their cats appropriately within their beliefs.

Presumably by feeding them a vegetarian/vegan diet.

Which would be cruel and dangerous:

I love rats, I've had them as pets and cried buckets when they died, but I'd still call a man in to get rid of them if wild ones were getting into my house.

The world is not a warm and fuzzy place where everything is black and white. You make the choices you're happy with, and everyone else can do the same.

I too kept rats as pets but when I moved on to keeping reptiles, those rats (not my pet ones) suddenly became food. Takes on a whole new perspective.

Some people keep pigs/sheep/goats/cows as pets but all are food items in the UK.

My cats and my dogs don't have a choice to eat meat, without it, the cats especially they would die.

I on the other hand won't die if I don't eat meat, I therefore don't need it and therefore don't eat it :)

    So true. And so simple.

You might be able to feed your cats/dogs on a vegetarian diet but I would question whether or not it's fair to inflict your conscious and your views on your animals. Same as I wouldn't expect my DD to be vegetarian just because I am!

You may have your reasons for not wanting to eat meat but it's reasons your cat/dog doesn't really have the intelligence to understand. They don't think like we do and eat meat because that's what their instinct is telling them they need to survive.

We have a higher level of thinking so to speak and therefore can "reason out" why we will/won't eat meat.

Other animals don't have this ability.

I was merely pointing out that it is possible whereas you said they would die if not fed meat.
  • Thought the latest hillside investigation into yet another RSPCA Freedom Food Farm would be apt stuck in this topic.

A pig farm in Britain, of course.
