Thanks for the replies but I just phoned for my MAC code to go to TalkTalk but Sky persuaded me to stay with -
£7.50 a month Line Rental (weekend calls)
    £2.50 a month Broadband

I wouldn't be using BT or VM as the benchmark for high quality CS either!
Exactly - so why pay more?

I agree. If cost if the prime factor, TT can rarely be beaten on an LLU service. But it's no good then expecting decent CS or any proper technical support at those prices. The trouble is that many people expect to get both.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

But even if you pay more (eg BT, VM) you can end up with rubbish CS, so what's it got to do with price?

Their CS isn't even that bad IME. They've got all the minor problems I've had resolved in a reasonable time, their first line support is a bit frustrating but no more so than many other companies I've dealt with.

    What's your experience?

To be fair individual anecdotal experiences are not the way to judge a company's service. It's fair to say that talktalk regularly fair very badly in official and wide-ranging industry surveys. Agreed? Which sort of backs up Macman's post - you pay your money and takes your chances if anything goes wrong. To be fair, as someone who uses a company that uses their BB service (but crucially for me their own in-house CS) the actual BB is pretty darned good. But I would worry about their CS if I was a 'direct' customer and anything did go wrong.

No. They come out fairly average on the customer surveys I've seen. For instance:

    http://media.ofcom.org.uk/2012/12/04/latest-customer-service-satisfaction-levels-revealed-2/

In fact for broadband their "dissatisfaction" rating is below average, with BT, VM and Orange all worse.

Exactly. They're rated just above the 3 providers who we all know are regularly bumping along the bottom. That's supposed to be good?
TT have certainly improved in the last year, but then they were starting from a very low point.

No, it's supposed to be average as I keep saying. And they've always been average in these sort of surveys despite all the anecdotes on the internet and opinions of people who've probably never even used them.

I can put up with average CS for a low price, as I do for most other services. You want to pay £10pm more for a friendlier call centre, fill your boots. I'm quite happy with TT.

An excellent deal because Aletank is already with Sky.
Just looking at the Sky site now and the cheapest for a new customer for BB up to 16megs and phone is £5 a month for 12 months then £10, plus £14-50 a month line rental.
    Totaling £19-50

New customers going to TalkTalk`s Essentials package can get (upfront) line rental for £9-50 a month and BB (up to 16megs) and phone for £3-75.
    Totaling £13-25

    You pays your money
