"A refund scheme for up to seven million people who were mis-sold card and identity protection products from insurer CPP has been announced. But it will only go ahead if enough victims vote for it, so we're urging you to say 'yes'..."

Why is it only post 2005 members? That's about the time I packed up CPP having been a member for ten years.0

You can still make a complaint:

I am still unsure if we need to claim direct or will be covered by the scheme. Basically insurance on in 2004 and told could not cancel, but they would ensure it was cancelled for the future. In 2005 renewed without any documents until AFTER money taken from credit card. Rang to complain and was told couldn't cancel but would ensure no further renewals. 2006 we rang before the date-no documents given again and ensured it didn't auto renew again.
So not a customer for long, account started prior to 2005, cancelled after. So do we wait for a letter or write direct?

It appears they have set up a special website which will go live tomorrow:

I took CPP a few years ago and then rang to advise that I did not want to renew it, they tried very hard to get me to continue but eventually accepted that I was not renewing. I had the policy for 2 or 3 years, will I get a letter or do I have to write to them? My cards were not even protected as I was never able to register them!0

What will happen to people who, like me, have moved house a couple of times since they had the policy? Will CPP find a way to track down our current address, or will we need to approach them ourselves?0

I think you'll have to approach them yourself. They'll probably be hoping that a lot of people have moved house and therefore not get the information and therefore not vote for it0 -

I took it out in 2000 through HSBC (Cardguard?). In 2008 I rang CPP (as they took over the policy) to cancel but was given the hard sell. I contacted CPP about 6 weeks ago when I first heard about the mis-selling and they confirmed the date and time that I rang to cancel and the approximate length of the call. The lady I spoke to said that they'd listen to the call again. However, a few weeks later, I got an email explaining that because of a computer error they couldn't listen to the call and therefore would refund me the payments since that date. I've now been sent a cheque to cover my payments plus 8% interest.
I suggest that you give them a call and explain what you've said above.
They have also forwarded my complaint to HSBC so hopefully I'll get something from pre-2008.0 -

Interesting FAQ section as below - this it would seem doesnt seem to make it as easy / automatic as the MSE editorial suggests it will be. In particular those who applied by post / in person and those who have claimed on the policy. Seems fair enough to me - just that the editorial makes no mention of this.
Why have I not received a letter?
ï•
We are mailing customers between 27 August 2013 and 16 September 2013 – we recommend waiting until at least one week after 16 September 2013 to see if you receive a letter.
Not all customers have been contacted as they are not covered by the scheme. This may be because:- you took out your policy before 14 January 2005 and did not make any payments for it after this date. The scheme does not cover payments made before this date;
- you took out your policy after we changed the way we sold protection policies;
- you held an identity protection policy that was not purchased by telephone;
- the policy holder has died;
- the bank or card issuer you purchased your policy from is not part of the compensation scheme;
- previous claims on your policy or the refund of payments you made for your policy mean you have already received back more than you would be owed under the compensation scheme; or
- previous claims on your policy or the refund of payments you made for your policy mean the amount of compensation you are owed is less than £5, which is the minimum amount required to be part of the scheme.
