iPad Mini or alternative tablet

Definitely the Nexus 7 - a far better device than the ipad mini, and much cheaper too.0

this has been a good buy, and at £70-75 delivered, cheap as chips:-
http://www.amazon.co.uk/NATPC-9-2-Economy-Android-Tablet/dp/B00BOT6N20/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1377686577&sr=1-2&keywords=wendy+lou
and 9.2" screen is definite plus point
Anyone else tested this device? I like the size but am not familiar with Android software......0 -
I've got the iPad mini and it is very nice. I use File Browser to get photos etc. on to my iPad for temporary use and iTunes for the "static" library, synced via WiFi.

Alternatively the Kindle Fire (or a Nexus 7) and an application like File Expert

I think the iPad Mini is worth the extra but there are some very good Nexus deals at the moment.0 -
hi stefano don't buy the wendy lou tablet. mine malfunctioned very soon after i bought it and they didn't repair it and then refunded me only half of what i paid, saying it's a stocking fee. amazon aren't being any help either, take my advice don't buy a cheap tablet from an unknown seller, spend the money in a proper retailer, it's cheaper in the long run
apparently wendy lou have been booted off amazon, though i do't think amazon like to say that, due to the number of recent complaints. i would never buy from any amazon marketplace seller again.0 -
I now have my sight on this: http://www.ebuyer.com/432600-sumvision-cyclone-voyager-tablet-pc-cycvoy101bt0

I think these are a really solid buy. Not the cheapest but has a couple of useful extras like Bluetooth (easier to use with add-ons or possibly play sound through car hands free) and mini HDMI port so with a cheap mini HDMI to normal HDMI cable you can plug it in a TV and use it like as a digital player (great on holiday to watch a movie if the place you stay has a modern TV with an HDMI input). Generous internal memory 16GB and twin cameras, one on the front for video calling (Skype) and a better one on the back for moderate photos.
Its only dual core for the main processor but in tablets the graphic processor does most the real work and the quad Mali chip is plenty up to the job.0 -
There is an unbelieable amount of android tablets about these days. Just look for the spec, forget about brand names.
For a fraction of the price of an ipad mini. For which you're just paying for the brand name0 -
Not just the name, you're getting the best Apps available and the best product support. There is an unbelieable amount of android tablets about these days. Just look for the spec, forget about brand names.

They're not cheap but I've never come across anybody disapointed with their Ipad.0 -

"product support" such as what?, its a tablet, a 90 year can use them. androids are so cheap you can chuck it and buy another for less than an Apple repair.
Any decent apps are the same too.

You have this 90 day thing when you buy a new apple product, which means if you have a problem, query or need to do something you can phone up and talk to someone about it. But it's only 3 months, anything outside that you can be battling apple afterwards. If it needs repairing for a non-user issue (ie not broken by the user) then as long as it goes your way it's pretty easy to fix by the genius team. However you may come across the water damage if they see any of the water sensors tripped upon opening. THEN you have a fight on your hands, often not ending in a good outcome for you. BUT this is main stream manufacturers who use these things, so potentially could be apple, or samsung, or sony, or etc. You then end up with an expensive bit of kit that doesn't work if you can't persuade them to fix it for free, and don't want to pay a large chunk for their repair aka refurb item at £££ rather than a £ or ££. As seen on threads here.
Android tablets are cheap, but then if you end up throwing it in the bin and buying another each time, it adds up, and you almost certainly wont want to go for the same one, as seen on threads here.
Apple, or other high priced large named manufacturers have a product that works out of the box pretty much, and are sleek, smart looking, good on battery, and has extra capabilities such as card slots for extensions (not apple of course). Usually better made, and have a good uk based service centres, and can be followed through with any lawful claims regarding their products.
Buying from places like ebuyer is fine, but when you buy cheap tablets off ebay, or amazon marketplace you rely solely on the fact the seller will even do anything after x months of use. 45 days outside on ebay if paypal used and you're screwed pretty much, and it can be from scratch on amazon market place.
So think carefully about where you buy it/any/whichever you go for.
I like my ipad and it does everything i want and need, but it's a premium price. There are comparable tablets cheaper as well. The only thing I will say to anyone is to always try before you buy.0
