Social fund

Having been unemployed for 11 month,i have now found a job,but it does involve travelling to and from. The problem is I have now signed off,but I have no money for fuel, and other expenses, until I get paid.

I have contacted the social fund, and I have been informed its not for that purpose, but only for people on benefit. So how do they expect me to get to and from work.Is there anything else in place to help me through the first month unpaid.

What did you do with all that money that was left you or are posting under someone else's name?

  • I'm sure whoever the beneficiary of the money is can lend the new employee enough for bus fares for a month.... Jesus, does someone else have to pay for EVERYTHING!!!

..or, can he not explain to work and see if they'll give him an advance on his wages?

When he was signing on he was paid in arrears so should have had a final payment. Is there non of that left?

When your on JSA for over 6 months, you should get a back to work payment of, about £100, i think. Edit: since found this stopped in April 2013.
That money is for travel etc.

Really no flaw in 'the system'

As last reply....ask for an advance on pay from the employer.

Or if all else fails....oh I give up...just borrow the money from friends and family or get a payday loan if you really must.

What's wrong with getting public trasnport? I bet the job is in the middle of nowhere...or some other reason...it takes too long...
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

I will sort out the money, and he can use my car,but that's not the point. In my case I am fortunate enough to do that, but his point what if he could not rely on his parents.

Surely the system should get him over that period, and then he can pay it back.Job grant(£100) was in place to do that, but was stopped by the government.
