Check whether you have accidental damage cover for personal possessions on your house policy - this may cover the "accident" doesn't matter whether at home or not.

  • Oh my goodness - heartbreaking :-( It's exactly the sort of thing I would do! I ruined a day old bag when a bottle of water leaked, and the bag was never the same again.

I would echo what moromir and pimento have said about the home insurance, its worth a try...

Thanks for all the replies so far.

I think I do have accidental damge cover on my home insureance need to double check that when I get home.

And thank you for all the links to various webiste I will check them out and see if it can be saved and how much it will cost to do.

Before speaking to your insurers about it certainly do some dummy quotes online to check the impact on your premiums.

For £300 it is highly unlikely that it is economical to claim given you'll probably have a £100 or more excess to pay, lose your no claims discount/ history and have inflated premiums for the next 3-5 years.

Assuming the bag is already ruined as far as you are concerned then I would try to soak it before it dries to remove as much as the colouring as possible and disperse what is left as far as possible.

Let it dry slowly and naturally, ideally with tissue or such inside it to keep its shape. Do not put it somewhere warm to get it to dry quicker.

If its still too noticable you can try some leather stain removal products or attempt to dye the bag a darker colour.

Yes, I didn't realise the bag was only £225. Expensive but hardly Balenciaga.

Oh god I would never recover if I had done it to a Balenciaga!!

Then again I would never spend £1000 on a handbag even if I could, I thought I was splashing out with this one lol and seeing as how I cant look after my things properly (as my Mother constantly tells me) I doubt I will spend this much again. Back to £40 quid ones from the high street I think ;)

Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.

I'd be gutted! Sorry i can't send a link as i'm meant to be working but it might be worth having a look on 'The Purse Forum' i seem to remember reading something there once about how to rescue the leather (possibly involving soaking the whole lot to ensure the colour dries even).

How did you pay? If credit card maybe worth checking if the insurance they provide for recent purchases covers accidental damage.
