Just wanted to express my gratitude to the various comments/advice received so far. Unfortunately 'I' don't know the legalities of the situation, so am interested to hear the advice.

I admit it would have probably been better to state 'as new' rather than 'brand new', but I sold it in good faith, as a new, unused laptop.

The purchaser started their complaint that the laptop was faulty, that they had taken it a repair shop, and been told it had non-original, old and faulty parts. Bear in mind this local repair shop is in Spain, and I have no idea who they are. Perhaps they are trying to scam the owner....?

Anyway, after I replied, they pursued communication by saying that they had contacted a UK solicitor yesterday. (I too was surprised by that since it was a Bank Holiday in the UK.)

So...I am not pursuing any further correspondence with them and will just await any further contact.

Again, I appreciate your help, and if you/others have any other advice/suggestions, they too would be gratefully received :-)

I think waiting for their next move and basically ignoring them is a good idea.

Hopefully they will just run out of bluster.

That is exactly what I would do.
Would they have a claim, well not done yourself any favours by selling brand news goods, but will they try it.
Somehow I think you would have a letter before action rather than a nasty E-mail.
    Be happy...;)

Road-Hog I believe you are actually trying to wind people up rather than add to debates now and I tend to skim your posts only. your post ignores the fact that OP says he has been threatened with a solicitor- it is immaterial what the legalities are, we are addressing points raised by the OP not by the buyer.

By all means continue to be as litigious as you wish

I find his posts hilarious and I for one hopes he continues to entertain with his dazzling intellect :rotfl:

I do truly love a good debate but as soon as he is questioned he changes tack and starts discussing something entirely irrelevant. I am also finding the apparent' I am trying to be the worst seller ever as I am big enough to take anyone to court' mantra getting a little tired.

Still, I am happy to skip his posts and concentrate on those making sense.

The purchaser has just contacted me informing me that they have contacted a UK solicitor and has been told they have a case against me.
Well if the buyer contacts you again then just simply tell them as they have contacted a solicitor, you will now only communicate through the solicitor.
If you do get a solicitors letter you can check to see if they are indeed a solicitor through http://www.lawsociety.org.uk

but i dont think this will happen

I agree, but Road Hog, and the other one that wanted to electrocute his dog, just entertain me as I drink my coffee :)

Thanks earthstorm, I am just sitting back now to see what happens next.

Their last email was this morning, stating that they contacted a UK solicitor yesterday. Previous emails had the subject 'HP computer', but this latest one has the subject 'HP computer (without prejudice)' .....

Well nice to see the usual comical replies....

OP, sit tight and wait for any action, it's doubtful but if it does come, then update on here.

In the meantime, block this user and their email address from any future transactions using the block bidder list on Ebay.

Aren't all laptops "made up of different parts from many manufacturers"?

    Just an observation.
