Describe the car as 'his second car', not 'your car'.
Insurance company will take this play on words to their advantage!0 -

Also look into the excess on the policy as younger/newer named drivers usually have a higher one than the older main policy holder.
I don't think the guy is willing to budge, I would offer to pay for the damage but he seems to want to go through insurance, knowing nothing about cars I don't even know what is damaged. I just want it over and done with to be honest as I can't deal with the stress of negotiating etci'm stressed enough as it is.
Going to try sort it with my dad when i get home today, I called him this morning and he said can you not try arrange to pay and get him to take the car to the garage a family friend of ours has but don't think that's going to be possible as the guy will have called his insurance by now. Plus if it is £800 then I simply don't have that..
If he is claiming against me/my dads insurance for the damage - who pays the excess? The car I drive has no damage so don't need to claim for anything there.
I know my insurance is going to rocket next year as not only will I be on my own I'll now have this. My quote is already £140 for being on my own with this car... I'm 24 next year and it's not a big engine or speed devil of a car.
Think I may just get a pedal bike lol...0 -
Unfortunately he is "the victim" here and as such he can take it where he likes for a repair. I was thinking an easy £1000 before I saw the costs so that's about right. Chances are he's going to the dealer for it so that's why it costs so much. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0

Sorry I wrongly assumed 'your car' was damaged too. No excess to pay then.
At least you wont have lost any no claims being as you don't have your own insurance yet.0 -
His premiums shouldn't be hit that hard tbh if his no claims bonus is protected. Just means he won't get an extra year added on to it this year and he will have to declare the claim (he shouldn't have to declare the accident as he hasn't had one).
Let the insurance deal with it, do a few dummy quotes to see how his premium would be affected then offer you dad the difference in price when it comes to renewal. This way the other parties happy and your dads not at a major loss. When you do finally get your own insurance though you will have to declare the accident (but I don't think you will have to declare the claim as it's against your dads policy) - this will see your premiums sky rocketing.
But as said, don't worry too much. Just see it as a learning curve and get right back on the horse.0 -
Thanks everyone. I just assumed as I'm at fault I would need to pay excess. If not then at least that's one weight off my shoulders as it would be a double whammy paying excess and the jumped premium next year. I'm not sure if dad has his no claims protected will check the documents tonight with him.
Ill learn from it for sure, in future I won't even move til the kids get OFF the road as I was so busy making sure I didn't hit them that I've not noticed the closeness of the parked car. If it were me its common sense to get off a road when a cars coming but obviously these kids don't have the same sense of danger.
Will let you all know how I get on. Just glad no one is hurt I guess as it could have been worse. Ill never hear the end of it though0 -
All worked out okay, dad called insurance to tell them they were nice about it just took the details, he loses 2 years no claims ( oops ) but he has been driving for 32 years anyways and not claimed once so he has loads anyways :P
Checked my insurance for renewal with me on own and one bump as a named driver, price increase will be £30 of what it is just now so not too drastic was expecting around that anyways without taking bump into the equation.
It means I will be £110 a month insurance, pretty steep at 24 years old but it will be 'cos I have no claims built and only been driving 2 years by that stage, suppose it will come down in time.0 -
