:(

100% my fault, was reversing out of street and was concentrating so much on the kids playing at the other side of the road that I managed to bump a parked car... left a note to let them know.

Anyways the guy came over and the thick plasticy panel ( but not bumper)at front of car and grill have been pushed back, no scrapes or any dents.

Have no idea how much it will cost to fix, neither me or the other guy know anything about cars but he said he will get a quote then we can decide wether to go through insurance or not.

I am terrified about the whole thing, and hating myself. I'm on my dads insurance and haven't told him yet but have a feeling it's going to cost a fortune and might have no choice to go through insurance :(:(

Don't even know what advice I am asking as none can really be given but I need to vent at how stupid I feel !!!

Be happy you did the right thing.

How old was the other car? If it was getting on a bit it could be written off for a new bumper! Won't make a difference to your claim though but it might persuade the other party to get one from a scrappers!

Do tell your dad though. Maybe buy him a pint!
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

I just keep having bad luck ( okay this was more stupidity not bad luck) only last week my window was hit by a stone, so there is a small crack that is JUST to big for autoglass to repair meaning i'm going to need a new windscreen also.

Going to be worrying all week about how much this is going to cost me, want to go outwith insurance as much as possible but can really only affrod £400 and that's pushing it really... knowing the cost of car repairs it will be more than that..

    women drivers eh :rotfl::(

He only got it last week, 08 reg in good condition. There is no bumps or anything just things have been pushed back the way and will need pulled out or whatever they do.

I know I did the right thing, wish other people were as considerate to me, two people have dented my car and driven off :(

Good on you for stopping and leaving a note, the world needs more people with a conscience. Sounds like the other driver is reasonable (hope I've not spoken too soon).

If the cost of repair isn't too high it'll hopefully be possible to settle between yourselves without the need to claim off your dad's insurance.

the car will want the full cost of a new panel and whatever else is damaged and cost of labour to fit it which isn't cheap about 30 pound a hr so don't be hoping its going to be cheap

even a grill isn't cheap depending on car
  • There's still some decent people out there, but its getting two together thats the problem.

Trouble is neither you nor the other driver know each other from a bar of soap, you're hoping that he's a decent sort who trys to deal with this fairly...but remember he'll be hoping that you are honourable and when the bill is submitted you don't deny all knowledge and tell him to sing for it...some low life's would.

Unfortunately people don't have 'scum' or' honourable' stamped on their foreheads, you can only hope your gut instincts are right.

Certainly be better all round if you can keep this away from official records.

The guy just phoned me he took it to a garage ( the one that I use, he's new to the area so had to ask where to go) and they have said at least £800 ( not incl labour) as some bar behind the bumper needs replaced, he did get me an itemised quote.

So insurance it is. I have no idea how it all works, I gave him my details and he said he will contact his.

So what to expect now? Of course will need to let my dad know ( dreading it, will be like a bad puppy with tail between legs)

Will his insurance rocket ? He has protected no claims, im down as a named driver on my car, he also has another car in his name solely. Im going on my own insurance next year though as moved out...

If anyone has had to do similar before please let me know what happens, im such a worrier.

800 for replacing a bar behind bumper well if the bumper wasn't damaged more like hes pulling a fast one and grill don't cost more then about 50 if that but theres nothing you can do and let insurance deal with it

I know the person at the garage personally so they wouldn't have given a BS quote, there are a few things at the front of the car that are pushed back but the bar itself is the most expensive thing I think. I know nothing about cars nor does the person who owns the car, only going on what can be saw.

Do I need to call my insurance?
