But I have to say where's the Good God I sure do hope that little Bichon is ok? Poor little scamp and yes i do hope he is ok. But poor little Bichon and its owners. I bet they are distraught tonight, after all their little dog has been bitten. Hd that been me, one of us would have gone with at family to make sure they were ok.

Sorry if my post isnt what some would want to read but hayho.x

  • Chris n jt, I totally get where you are coming from, please don't think I am not sick to my stomach at the thought of that poor other dog and its owner. I took my son about 20 yards down the street as he was beyond hysterical to the woman that had come out and was about to phone the police. When the woman was just about to call them, we all looked back up and my husband and the other guy had them separated. I went over to them and asked where was the woman and dog and he was in a state saying she went off saying she was taking her dog to the vets and he kept saying 'I should have given her our details'. That's why I asked where we legally stood as if it were me, I would have phoned the police!

I do realise where you are coming from I really do. I wouldnt have phoned the police had I seem this happen, if that makes you feel better.
It was reading your dog had hold for 5 minutes, have you seen a Bichon's nose close up? Its no bigger than a penny piece (I know as I have a Bichon) Thats what I think upset me, not many really had any thoughts of that little dog, just how you were feeling. I am sorry if my post seemed hard but had it been your dog that had been attacked I think you would have felt differently about this. x

  • I don't think you are being harsh at all, the facts are the facts - my dog attacked another dog and I would be beyond devastated and berserk if it had been the other way around. I genuinely have nothing to say in my defence as that's all it would be, pure defensiveness.

You have my sympathy. I had a dog once who was fine with other dogs and most people but he didn't like blondes. If he saw a blonde person he would just bite them!

The muzzle is a must. It doesn't matter how much training or therapy he has, you're never going to trust him in that situation again. At least with a muzzle he can't actually bite anything, and it will give you peace of mind.

I know this is too little, too late, but I've been told that if a dog is attacking another dog or person or whatever one way to stop them is to stick your finger up their backsides. I don't know how effective this is as I've never had to do it (thank goodness!)

I think he was just trying to protect his pack against what he perceived as a threat.

    Good luck.

Having been in the situation of my previous dog being attacked whilst on lead then him being aggressive to other dogs (although never actually biting) I know what it is like from both sides.

I did and do feel very sorry for the little dog's owners. It is awful for your dog to be attacked but she wasn't posting on here for anyone to give sympathy whereas the attacking dog's owner was.

My previous dog was changed for ever by being attacked by a Labrador. He wasn't badly hurt but not one word of apology by the owner. It had a bad effect on me too as for quite a long time after I didn't want to walk him and I know my anxiety passed to him. I would cry and shake after a walk for a couple of weeks.

My now pup was attacked about a month ago. Again, my dog was on lead and a staffie shot out of someone's front door and hurtled towards me and pup growling and snarling. I have never been so frightened. It was grabbing at my dog but because mine kept jumping around and because he has long fur the staffie never managed to get hold. After what seemed an eternity but was probably a minute the owner actually came and managed to grab the dog. Again, no apology in fact no words at all from him. I screamed and shouted at him, not something I am proud of, but I was so angry. I really do not want another dog reactive dog.

Luckily it doesn't seem to have affected my pup at all. I no longer walk along the street where the staffie lives which is a pain as it is by far the quickest route to the park.

  • Well, it is an hour after my natural alarm clock usually gets me up. After a sleepless night with a very scared little boy in my bed, I must have finally dozed off. This is the only time Scampers barks on the house, to get up and go out. When I came down, he had pooped on the floor, he had never, ever had any sort of a toilet incident in the house. We just calmly picked it up and went about our business but he definitely not his usual 'hello! Good morning' self with us. We are heading to the vets for open surgery straight away, via pets at home. Will keep you updated.

I hope your little man is ok this morning. It does sound like he might be a bit under the weather doesnt it. Good luck at the Vets. xx

OP i wasnt having ago about the dogs fighting I really wasnt, dogs fight thats life. it was just that no one seemed to think of the little dog thats all.

I hate any dog to be ill or hurting, and as a rescue (any rescue) we will never ever know what vile evil things might have happened to them in their lives before their new forever homes. So i always make allowances for that before passing judgement on any dog.

Chris, as a fellow bichon owner my first thought was for the little dog too. However the person who was here needing help was the OP, and it was clear she felt awful about what happened and didn't need us to make her feel worse! I'm not saying that's what you're doing, just trying to explain the response.

If the other owner had posted it would of course have been very different. We provide a unique and personalised service here! ;)
  • We are just home from the vets. I don't think my family have ever been as devastated. The vet was fantastic, checked him over, temps, the while shebang. I stood and cried and cried as we explained everything and to put it in a nut shell, our options are to keep and muzzle him, whilst working though it or re home him. Please do not judge me for the next couple of paragraphs as I am being bluntly honest here and can barely see to type properly.

One of the vet nurses said that basically it is this particular dogs nature, they have 3 to 4 cases of this and worse every week and it is ultimately an animal. The other nurse said that if I could afford a good behaviourist, which I just cannot at this minute in time to keep Scamp but if not, re home him as NOTHING makes this type of behaviour except able and the children are the priority.

My big daughter, who Is hard as nails was unconsolable, my husband rang the rescue we had got him from and explained the situation and my son hid in his room crying. I came back down the stairs to see my husband putting his lead on and tears welling up. To see my big, strong husband in this state was horrifying beyond comprehension. As we wept and petted the dog, I said that I couldn't cope with the thought of him alone and looking for us in the kennel.

To cut a long story short, we had a family talk and have been bluntly honest with the children and my husband is out now with him getting a muzzle and he had a reprieve until Saturday, which the rescue place knows about.

I don't know if I am delaying the inevitable, letting my heart rule my head but this is the story so far.

I can't bear to think of what state the other dog and its owner are in and I got the nurse to have a look at her system to see if they had any emergencies but nothing.
