DWP Claims Estate of Mother
Comments
-
Pensions are paid say on ist Monday of a month to cover that month...so 1st August to cover August.
If your mother died on 5th August, they would claim back 3 weeks of that money, as your mother received her money in advance.
It is standard practice and we had to repay DWP a few weeks after my mother died shortly after her payment date.
If however she was claiming additional benefits- these would be a different matter with so many assets (not including her home)0 -

Sorry but the State Pension since 2010 has been paid in arrears!
In other words there can never be an overpayment.0 -

Has it?

The basic State Pension is usually paid 4-weekly into an account of your choice.
Payments are always made in advance on the same weekday.0 -

No they are not. Since 2010, they made the State Pension payable in arrears every 4 weeks.0 -

I can assure you that people who drew their state pension before April 6 2010 and were paid weekly were (and still are) paid in advance!

I think we are at cross purposes here.
The way I remember it was that if you were over pensionable age before April 2010 you would still have the right to a weekly payment in advance. If that option isn't exercised they will revert to 4 weeks in arrears as it was before the change.
The only change is that for those who become of pensionable age after April 2010 they will have no choice - the State Pension will always be paid in arrears with a default period of every 4 weeks.
They also fiddled about with the payment dates.
So anybody that receives the State Pension will have it in arrears every 4 weeks excepting those pre 2010 claimants who can opt to have it paid in advance weekly.0 -

Since there may well be thousands of pre 2010 pensioners receiving their pensions in advance, clearly there can quite easily be an overpayment.
The OP gave no details of how his late mother was receiving her pension but she had started to receive it before 2010.0 -
