DWP Claims Estate of Mother

  • Your Mother's NI history would have been verified at the beginning of her state pension claim. DWP will not be looking for that.

They will be checking to make sure any payments made AFTER her death are paid back, and of she was in receipt of any means tested benefits, whether the estate reflects the circumstances she reported when making her claims. Perfectly normal, reasonable and above board.

Drop the paranoia - your are not being targeted, no one is out to get you.

No need to be so paranoid op - as already stated by others it sounds as if it is a case of them simply getting back what they automatically paid into her bank account before being notified that she had died. It happens all the time.

Not entirely. The DWP want to trawl through the assets she left behind just on the off chance that they (the DWP) made a !!!! up when calculating her Pension Credit - or, and more likely the case, to see if they can get something out of the estate in the belief that most people when they claim Pension Credit 'hide' assets from the DWP. You see, the DWP are of the opinion that there are very few honest people around.

The DWP will also no doubt be asking for bank statements goings back yonks to try and establish how far back they can trawl.

Why did I know Andy would be spouting his usual nonsense? The irony of him talking about 'honest people'! :p

Sorry, that doesn't make any sense to me at all.

And accepting the post as directed at me, ignoring the reference to this andy chap, what bit of what I said was nonsense?

Of course the DWP want to trawl to see if what the claimant said when applying for Pension Credit was actually true.

    Complete rubbish Andy.

Why do you say that Andy?

All of my points raised are totally true. If you think they aren't qualify your comment with examples of where I have said something that is wrong.

I have carried out the job as both an administrator and executor, and in all cases where a means tested benefit was involved it was pretty clear to me that the DWP were trawling to find out who had been telling porky pies when they made the claim/and or failed to inform the DWP of capital being paid to them.

I'm surprised that you haven't backed up your comment by now if you think my posting was nonsense?
  • So am I know getting the feeling it is about pension credit; I have the details, but what is missing here is the depth of analysis. Paranoid? Yes I am, I am dealing with a department that does not have a good reputation and one I do not trust
I will update this thread and each may judge the developments

    I doubt that too
  • I doubt that too

You may doubt it all you like, it doesn't make it any less true.

Panic yourself unnecessarily if you wish.
