Please move this thread if in wrong place.

Went to court last week to watch someone getting sentenced:

They got a pathetic 18 week jail term suspended for 2 years and a lovely ankle braclet for 6 months.

However, prior to being prosecuted, the defendants solicitor said that they would be unable to do community service as they are in reciept of ESA and DLA and unable to work due to ill health.

Hence the suspended sentence and 6 months with an ankle bracelet.

Anyway, after a bit of research a few people have found out this person has been working Monday to Friday for quite a few years in a local shop.

Just wondering if this could be dragged thru the courts again as this case is close to my heart.

You went to court to see someone getting sentenced and from your post it seems that you are not happy with the outcome. Are you looking to report this person and hope that they go to court again as a result of your 'research'? This case is close to your heart ... how?

As someone has said here you can report your findings to the DWP and let them look in to it. You seem to have knowledge of this persons' circumstances and what they are receiving in benefits, if this is the case you must be extremely close to this person.

I never understand how people know the details of what people receive in benefits and what they actually receive. Do they just assume, get second hand information (gossip) or do they ask these people what they get and why?? I never discuss my business to anyone or why and what I get in benefits.

The simple answer to these issues would be to have details of all benefits paid to any individual published on a website for anybody to see if they wish.

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Given that over 40% of welfare benefits go to the pensioners they may not be too happy.

Also there's the issue of that pesky Data Protection Act that people like you amongst many other things forget!! :D

Why would anyone object, unless they have something to hide?
i would have no problems with it.

Neither would I, I don't care who knows how much I get and where it comes from. If people have a problem with that then that is their problem not mine!

How would they do this, how much details and at what cost to set it up?
    Also as Schrodie says:

They would not be able to publish any personal details only perhaps the benefits awarded but they would not be able to give reasons for awarding a benefit such as DLA or ESA for reasons of ill health. They would have court cases with regard Data Protection and Human Rights etc. Even if they produced names of people receiving benefit they would not be able to publish where they live etc.

Another problem would be that a high percentage of people would look up to see if next door neighbours are receiving any benefits and how much, also if anyone they knew were receiving any benefit.

My friends, neighbours and family know exactly what we get, where it comes from and how/why we get it.

It's a little bit difficult not explaining to a neighbour who knows I don't work, yet turn up with a new £25,000 car that shows that I pay no road tax or turn up in a large 4x4 that I have bought myself.

I am not embarrassed or ashamed of what benefits we get. In fact some are surprised as they knew nothing about a particular benefit, I explain about it and they too make a claim.

    Why is that a problem?
    It is public money.
