So glad this is working out for you :T. Love it when a plan comes together :beer:A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Just an update from me on how things are doing!
Been in the new job now since middle of November and all is going really well. Life is good. My 'new home' is still being renovated and the work is also going well. I hope to be installed by the end of February though perhaps that may slip a little. I don't care!
This has been the best move of my life, at the right time of my life and for the right reasons. I choose to take a slight drop in salary to do this move and have no regrets. In 42 days I will start to receive my local government pension. My work contract finishes in March 2015 and after that I will be totally free from the toils of employment.
Perhaps I may miss the 'toils of employment' - don't know but am looking forward to finding out.
It's working out for me!
Thanks for all the advice and comments. I really appreciate them all.0 -
Great to hear everything is going well.
Are you going to put the Loc Gov pension in a new pension for the time being?0 -
Good for you Gers, it's so nice to hear a happy story for a change.
I spent nearly 40 years in Local Government and contributed to the pension scheme throughout. I fell under the old rules and would have been eligible to retire at 60 but because my health wasn't brilliant and they were planning to reorganise the departmental structure, they let me go two years early at 58 with my pension.
I shall be starting my eighth year of retirement in a couple of weeks, but the novelty still hasn't warn off. It's such a relaxing life and the lack of work pressure has allowed me to cope better with my health issues.
To think I used to begrudge those Superannuation contributions being taken from my pay!
Well I certainly don't begrudge them now and it's very satisfying to see that big wodge of money going in to my bank account every month and knowing I need never work again. :j
Hope you enjoy retirement as much as I am.... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0 -
That sounds even better Oblivion. Would that the other half and I had a DB pension between us lol.0

Glad it's working out ok

As you'll see from my signature, we've now set ourselves a date to work towards for our early retirement, so I'm hanging in there, hoping the time will pass fairly quickly!Early retired - 18th December 2014

Five days to go until first monthly pension payment is received! Think it's down to their bank run as it's 15 days 'til my birthday. I'm not sure if the lump sum comes early as well but it's not too important.
Work on my retirement home is going well, won't be my hoped for entry date of end of Feb but could well be early March.
Working for another year, planned loads of overseas travels, bought a few lovely things and beginning to relax about this new phase of my life. :j
I hope that everything works out for the others who gave me advice and encouragement.
Thanks0
