Sold item, but other member wants to collect..

Had something listed for £80 BIN/Best Offer and someone bought it outright at the full £80. It's an awkward/bulky item so collection only/local delivery.
The buyer paid via paypal and has over 1000 feedback.. Within a few nminutes I rec'd a message from another eBay member saying their mum had just bought the item and paid via paypal and when could they collect.
Never been in this situation before.
I've ignored the message and sent a message to the actual person who bought the item asking when would they like to collect.

I would refund and do cash on collection only.
Just so you don't become out of pocket.Don’t put it down - put it away!

I'm not too fussed about the Paypal/colelction thing. My main concern with this situation is the fact that its another eBay member that wants to collect.
I'm just wondering if this is some sort of new scam? Where by they wait until the item is sold then contact them saying "my dad has just bought this item and paid from his account.."0 -
Where the potential scam could be is in relation to the item being paid via pay pal, the buyer collects the item and then they make a false claim regarding item not received. You will have no proof of postage etc as it was collection only.
If you can afford to lose the £80 then you take the risk l'm afraid.0 -

How can 2 people win and pay for 1 item, or am i reading this wrong?
If only one has paid then simply ignore the other and put them on your blocked list.Lose is to not win......Loose is not tight......get it right!0 -

Ignore, chase up buyer. You have no obligation to respond.
I mitigate against the whole collection, paypal issue by taking a pic of the buyer with the collected item and or have them sign a doc stating they collected xyz on xyz date. Never had a refusal yet. Overkill maybe but yet to have an issue with collector ripping me off.I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

Why??? Are you willing to lose £80?? I wouldn't mind who collected it so long as it was arranged by the person who bought and the person collecting brought cash.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

You have seriously misunderstood how the main e-bay scam works.
If they claim not to have received it and used paypal, unless you have a tracking number, they will refund them all the money immediately and they get the item free.
As advised if someone wants to collect, refund the paypal and accept cash only or if you have put postal services, take the item to the post office and post it via a tracked service to the paypal verified address only.
Get this wrong and you are £80 out of pocket and your itemBe happy...;)0
