    Jaguar X Type 2.0d

All the benefits of a diesel Mondeo (up to 62mpg on a run, £135 a yr tax, low insurance) plus the prestige, comfort and refinements of a Jaguar (Bluetooth, climate, leather, electric everything, ambient lighting etc etc)

Estate version would suit your needs perfectly and you should be able to source a nice enough one for £5000

We paid only £8000 for our 2008 X Type in June last year, and that was from a main dealer with warranty, FJSH, tax, tank of fuel, freshly serviced etc

Buy private to get it even cheaper!

Done 15,000 miles in ours in 14 months and hasn't missed a beat

Easy to average 50+mpg in it

Being Mondeo based, parts and servicing are very reasonable too.

£8000 for a 4 year old car OUCH...

Stick to the Mondeo, Same running gear but more interior space than the jaguar. And MUCH MUCH cheaper.

  • I'd also back the Mondeo. I'm on my second, and I've been pleased with both. They are reliable, seat five comfortably, and have good fuel economy. (Diesel 40mpg plus).

If you require more room still, the estate is massive. The Mk 4 (current model) is larger than the Granada/Scorpio.

£8000 was actually a bloody good price at the time!!

A class above the Mundane-o in comfort and image.

    Each to their own anyway......

But its a Mondeo. Bit like saying 'no point shagging Sharapova, just have a go on Lisa Riley. She has the same running gear but MUCH MUCH cheaper.'

Mondeo's these days are on a par with BMW and MB for quality, and probably not as common as the Three Series.

And don't forget that the Mondeo is fitted with Jaguar X-type underpinnings. If you haven't driven one, I recommend you do. It will surprise you.
