Used Car Broke Down 5 months after purchase still on finance
Hi All
Hope this makes sense, im after a bit of advice last june 2012 i bought a used car on finance from a ford dealer, within the 3 month warranty i had to take the car back to have some work done on the clutch which was all ok. Then 2 months after the warranty expired (Nov 12) when driving my car smoke started coming from the engine and a strange smell of curry. my brother took it to a garage to be looked at and there first response was it would cost around £100 - after looking into the car further they discovered something else and said the repair bill would be about £600 - he proceeded to do the repair but due to financial constraints was unable to retrieve the car from the garage. It is still there now!! 9 months later and the mechanic is getting annoyed and needs it gone but cash flow is very low.. Can you tell me if i have any rights with either the dealer or my finance company.
I am unsure at this moment what work has been carried out, i have just emailed my brother to find out for me and let me know i wil then update the thread.
Any help on this matter would be most appreciated
Thanks
With regards to the repair

Without knowing the fault(s)
its hard to advise0 -
The person who should be exercising their rights is the repairing garage. You have a car, a complex machine with thousands of parts that can and do go wrong. Your finance company wont be interested and neither will the trader you got it from. Make up your mind on what you want to do with the car before the repairing garage exercises their lien and take you to court for not paying the bill (and storage costs) or selling at auction to recover their costs.0

Ok so my brother has just contacted me and thinks that the water systme failed and blown the head and bent some valves????
Still waiting to hear back from the mechanic
You sound like you are describing 2 major faults
A cam belt going and taking valves out
A head gasket going and causing head issues
So while we wait for the correct information
Is the car servicing up to date?0 -

Thank you for the reply
The repairing garage will not take me to courrt as they get a lot of work from my brother,
I was simply asking about my rights regarding car breaking down after only 5 months0 -
Sorry, no rights to anything
As above, you need to focus on paying for the repairs before you lose the car for ever.0 -
How old is the car?0
-
The Car is a 20040
