Would have been surprised if it wasn't one or the other. Legal aid is all about publicity. Get your name out there for the plebs to request you. They will make a lot of money from an already small legal aid pool.

Biggest legal aid earners doesn't necessarily mean best. I'd put my faith in senior counsel paid on results.
  • Listening to this guy this morning on the radio. Honestly you would think he was on a one man quest to have the state of Peruvian prisons improved just for these two girls........ seriously !!

Most of the criminal legal aid clients he'll be trying to appeal to (to get future business from) will think that a great solicitor is one who shouts the loudest. He's trying to appeal to the xfactor watchers. Marketing.

The firm already has pictures of the two and links to news about their case splashed on the front page of their Ryanair style website.

And today the story is the girls knew they had drugs in their bags (under duress) and they may plead guilty to get (they hope) only a 2 year sentence. emo23.gif [Thanks HAW]

It's just what I expected. Then they can always say they weren't guilty but put in a plea because they were advised to do so. The fact is they were caught bang to rights.

What exactly does a human rights lawyer do?

    There's a description here http://www.lawandlegal.co.uk/careers/human-rights-lawyer/

A lot of lawyers specialise. Most do criminal law, some do conveyancing and a few, just a few, do human rights. I should imagine human rights cases are quite involved and potentially more difficult than just representing a client for shoplifting or other minor crime.
