Really they are paying me as I should get at least £150 for the box,
Do you really think you'll get anywhere near £150 for a Sky decoder you've used for a year or more?

Exactly. They'll probably be a new Sky gizmo by then, and the HD+ boxes will be given away on freegle for nothing, or ebay for a few quid, just as the old Sky+ ones are now.

I took it to mean sell the fancy box straight away while they are still in vogue and don't watch Sky. Still a profit at the end of the day if it sells for more than the total subs?

That would probably mean a higher sale price but would also be a bit of a waste of the subscription (might as well use that for the year).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

OP says 'after 12m I plug my Freesat box back in'. Which kind of suggests that they will be using the HD+ box until then. Otherwise they'll be paying for a Sky sub and having no service to show for it...unless they use another box.

Well in my case I didn't have a dish so my primary motive was getting one.

Even if I get nothing for the box (unlikely as even 3 year old boxes go for £50+) the total cost would be £132.00 for the year and to get a dish brought and installed would have cost me more than that.

So for me win/win, for someone with a dish then, yes you would need to score £132.00 or more for the box in 12 months. Currently going for £150-£200 on ebay for a SKY+HD 2 TB BOX.:D

Then buy a basic older Sky box for £10 then...I've given a few of them away over the last year. They were gathering dust so I just gave them away as I couldn't be bothered with Ebay.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

The fact that there are so many apparently "new" HD boxes on sale on E-Bay does not mean they are ever actually sold at those prices of course!

Looking at the completed listings, most are selling for between £130 and £150. Even if you get £150, take your sellers fees off that and you'll come out with around £135. Is £2 profit really worth it?

If I had a choice of paying a lot for a new dish, or being paid (even a small amount) to have a new dish plus having the benefit of sky tv for a year, I'd say its worth it.
