I can vouch for crumpler bags, one of my bags I've had 15 years and its only now that its showing signs of wear. Crumpler do messenger bags and backpacks and bags for cameras etc. You can get them cheaper on Ebay.0

The canvas army bags are fantastic for school! I've just bought my girlies daughter a black one and I'm going to bling it for her to make it girlie.0

two carrying methods, ideal for walking to school, and between lessons. Sturdy, and come in blokey colours. also have laptop protection, and a reflector patch. Expensive but worth it."If you see someone without a smile, give them yours.":DMiss Mona, The Best Little *****house in Texas0 -

Another vote against Kipling for boys. My drawstring swimbag is Navy but neither of my boys will use it, not even at the age of 7. They'd rather use a supermarket carrier bag. Kipling is definitely a 'mum' bag, whatever the colour.52% tight0

Go to TKMAXX they will have backpacks that are for laptops and ones that are made for the outdoors, they are both padded and very comfortable but look like ordinary backpacks on the outside.
You'll see online they have wenger, mc california, timberland and a few sports brands which will be less hard wearing/comfortable.
£25 for timberland is a steal imo but go in store so you can get a feel for them.0 -
If he wants cool, then as suggested, superdry is probably the way to go, and they generally last, my little brother used his for all 5 years of high school.
Otherwise the person who posted the JD sports link had the right idea. Pretty much all the other brands posted aren't 'cool' in the slightest, and they're very much 'mum brands'.0 -
The No Fear bags from sports direct are pretty sturdy and reasonably priced.
DS has a skate bag from Two Seasons, it has velcro straps to attach your skateboard to the outside of it so is the ultimate in cool but I don't think will last as long as the No Fear ones.Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

I like the look of those bags for myself but when you click through to the details they all show as "currently unavailable".0 -
Only this week, DGD commented that her fabric (nylon?) rucksack from Paperchase had lasted her right through secondary school. Some designs are girlie but not all, worth taking a look if you have a branch nearby.0
