Draper brand work bags & rucksacks are pretty tough and fairly masculine - designed for leisure and work use. I use their fishing backpack often and it's stood up to all sorts.

not sure how 'cool' these are though!

(and a bit pricey at £110!)
If you need help on Kipling bags I would look on this thread

Don't buy a Kipling bag, they're certainly NOT cool for teenage boys! None of the sensible 'mum-friendly' brands are.
Try looking through this page with him and find one that you agree on: http://www.jdsports.co.uk/men/mens-accessories/bags-and-gymsacks/#q_back1

Our grandson going into year 8 has a black Nike airline bag....the cost was £35 and it is still going strong.
That style (airline bag) certainly appears to be what the youngsters want.0 -
Thanks for all the replies - lots to look at and see what he thinks. I had dismissed a fabric bag as too flimsy, but I think the synthetic leather type ones are worse, so will reconsider them.
I like the idea of a laptop bag, but a bit concerned about someone thinking there is actually a laptop in it and nicking it off him (walking through town).0 -
My son had a Dunlop bag from Sports Direct last year and it lasted the whole year. Its starting to look a bit tatty now but it cost me about £12 so I was more than happy with it. Maybe we were just really lucky with that one.
If your boy is anything like mine I wouldnt trust him with a very expensive bag (thank goodness he isnt a girl and we dont have the whole Cath Kidson craze!). I agree about steering clear of anything that looks like it might have a laptop in it too.0 -
Hello
I have two older teens and a soon to be Year 7 all boys. Mine have Superdry rucksacks. They are strong, comfortable to carry and last beyond the school year. They are not cheap at £34.99 but do the job and cool enough to use for school and when out and about at the weekend.

One of mine had a Superdry bag, that lasted a couple of years before the vinyl started to crack.
The other had a Yak Pak, he got it in yr 10, it's still going strong now, he's 18 and uses it on a daily basis almost. We came across them in TKmaxxAccept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
