Clever-Hotels Navelar GMBH - how do i claim money back?

Options
I have received an email in the last 2 hours from Clever-hotels.com in which stated that the German hotel booking company Navelar GmbH have gone Insolvent.

Sadly for me I don't own a credit card and so I booked with my debit card. I didn't book as a package as it worked out almost half the price booking separately. I must admit I'm a rookie from all this and I've learnt a lot in the last 2 hours!

I have travel insurance through my bank.. well I'm supposed to with RBS but then again now people can claim for mis-sold bank charges. I've had a quick look through the RBS Royalties Travel Insurance document and it barely mentions accommodation in there! Oh Jeeze!

The email from Clever-hotels.com says any reimbursements can't be claimed until October/November once the liquidation proceedings will be opened. It say my hotel booking may be affected and may be cancelled and I may have the opportunity to book directly with my hotel again.

My problem is, I can't afford to pay again as my holiday is at the end of September and if I can't claim until liquidation begins... I'm stuffed!

I have contacted my hotel and they do not know if my payment has been received by them or not yet! They said they would look in to this further.

I have emailed info@navelar.com as per the clever-hotels.com announcement on their website but as you would think, they can not guarantee a quick response with the amount of queries they will receive.

Has anyone else been affected by this? We could help each other and keep updated as to our progress?

HELP!! One thing is for sure... if my bank charges for travel insurance don't cover this... I'll be another person claiming is sold charges!!

THANKS

Joanne

  • I have had the same thing happen to me today. Booked a hotel through Trivago who routed me to this company over 2 weeks ago and then I receive an e-mail the day before we were meant to check in advising that the company has gone into "liquidation". What recourse do we have against companies that do this? I certainly will not be using Trivago again either.
  • Me too. Less than two weeks until our honeymoon. We also booked by debit card. This is the second time this has happened to me (you would have thought I would have learnt my lesson). The first time, my bank fully reimbursed me immediately and sought to claim the funds back from the company at the time. I am going to try tomorrow to claim the £619 back that I have lost this time.
  • And yes mine was with clever hotels also. Ironic isn't it!
  • I also was directed to this company through Trivago . Does anyone know if you have any claim on them . Looks like a lot of people have been caught out .Seems that Navelar-Clever-hotels have done this before so you would think trivago would stay clear of them.

    What have they done before.

Not sure why you would have aclaim from Trivago as they are just a website that compares prices.

I used them last year for a booking ealy this year and everything was fine, but I admit to having reservations when booking as they were much cheaper than anyone else.

I prepaid and got a voucher. it may be that anyone who prepaid and has had a voucher for a while will be ok.

Before trying a chargeback it may be worth getting in touch with the hotel and see if they ahve been paid

Two links for those affected you MUST read:

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/section75-protect-your-purchases
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/visa-mastercard-chargeback

You should not need to wait for the insolvency period - your email should be, potentially, a viable reason for your bank to address the amounts paid.
  • I booked and paid in full a hotel booking in February for a trip to Boston in November. I called the hotel who still had my booking but interestingly Navelar used a travel agency called TransHotel in Madrid. I called TransHotel who confirmed they had not received the money. It looks therefore that I will need to pay again, but this time directly with the hotel. I paid by Amex, which is a charge card. I called them this morning and they will contact their disputes team when they return to work on Monday. They will advise me within 5 to 10 days whether I will be reimbursed

Wouldnt it not be best to see if the hotel in question has received the booking and been paid.

    ie
NVH checked in this morning in Chicago, and looks like the hotel has been paid.

I wouldnt think you could do a charge back if that is the case, or is it best to start a chargeback anyway?

    EDIT

the post before mine doesnt make good reading

to be brutally honest...you dont want to get there and have to figure out someone else's mess. there is too much risk that you could turn up and be expected to repay or pay rack rates, something insurance or banks wont cover.

I would personally get a refund from the banks wherever possible and rebook, most likely with a main chain who nearly all now offer a price guarantee.

Yes I get that but if the hotel has been paid, would the bank still refund you
