Bus stop outside house yay or nay?

Mid terrace house, off road parking in front, but then theres a bus stop pretty much right outside. It's just a sign, no shelter or bench or anything.

I don't know how busy the road is exactly, theres a college further down so I'd imagine it would get fairly busy at peak times.

Anyway has anyone experienced this? Is it a total no-go? Also do you think it would significantly make a house more difficult to sell?

Well if it was going to make it "more difficult to sell" presumably you are trying to buy it with an appropriate discount?
  • Well it's on at 99k, and as far as we can tell it needs full modernisation, so we'll be offering a little bit less (subject to viewing) . The bus stop thing was something I only just noticed on the streetview. I think I can live with it myself but maybe I'm just being optimistic.

My main worry is whenever a bus has stopped that makes a delay getting in/out of the drive. Could be the kind of thing that gets really annoying after a while. I'll have to consult the timetables for that particular stop.

Depends if you are a public transport user!

If you are, it's a real bonus!

You have the rubbish, crime, people in the way and the noise to contend with.
  • I never thought about people, I'd have to beep them out of the way pulling in to the drive :/

What about crime though? I mean it's not a hanging around kind of bus stop as theres no bench or shelter.

I think the bus might sound quite noisy as it was pulling away. How far away is the stop from the house, and are there any bedrooms out the front?

Also, for example, is there a public house nearby, as you might get people who have had a few drinks being generally noisy and silly outside your house in the evening whilst waiting for their bus.

I think a bus-stop outside my house is a good thing and would be very handy when you need it.
Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

So. Do you have a low wall in front of your house and what stops them putting a shelter in tomorrow.
  • hmmm, speaking from experience - we didn't have a bus stop outside our house, but recently a private firm has started running a route and they chose our house to be the unofficial stop! Most of the passengers are older people going home from the supermarket, but we have people leaning/sitting on the garden walls, blocking our gate when I go in/out with my 3-yr-old, and some lounging about with cans swearing loudly. Add to that the bus noise and smell, and it nearly ramming into the back of my car when I'm waiting for a lull in the traffic to get onto our tricky drive.....I'd have to say not a good thing!
