I feel much more positive now I know there are people out there who can spare 5 minutes to offer advice and support. A big thankyou to you all. On that note I must get some sleep. Will update and post more often

there's plenty of people on here happt to offer hugs :grouphug: - most of us have had some crisis or another and needed support. it may be an anonymous forum, but people are genuinely interested in helping eachother. sleep well!

Make sure it's only a smile you flash though or they won't ever let you shop there again and you might get a criminal record. Voice of experience talking here!

Try building a page on myspace then searching for people in your local area and send them a friendly hello. I made a lot of good friends this way last year and found some friends i'd lost touch with. If you need any help just give me a shout.

Oh and before you get to the checkout with the fit girl, check your basket. You don't want her scanning dandruff shampoo, odour eaters and piles cream!!

  • I'll second the check girl approach.

Went shopping in the local Tesco's thought nothing of it, girl served me, was only when I'd paid I thought - she looks all right. Checked the ring finger - nothing. Did say anything to her though.
Went back the next day with the soul intention of seeing her on the checkout. Queued up, and she was speaking to the woman in front of me. Listened in and found out that she had a boyfriend.

Even so, I thought if she knocks you back, there was no embrassment at all. the chance of seeing her again is remote, and you can always change the supermarket you shop at anyway.

So I now only go for girl checkouts. Check the figure, check the ring finger, and make my mind up. Go for it.

I was feeling a little bit like you a few years ago, I was in a small flat, divorced, crap salary etc etc. I then took on a 2nd job in a bar and made loads of new friends (i was the oldest by far but didn't seem to make any differrence), got asked out a lot and the extra money meant I could get more on my mortgage and move to a two bedroomed house. Once in the house I then got a lodger and with her money towards the mortgage etc meant I could go out more. I never turned down an opportunity to go out and met my second hubbie in a night club - never thought that would happen!!!

Things will get better for you I promise, you just need to get out there :D
