First Direct v Nationwide v Halifax v Anyone else!

Hi Guys/Girls.

Im looking at changing accounts.

Currently with Nationwide, looking at either Halifax, FD or anyone else... i could always stay with Nationwide...

Reason for moving because NW where rude and not helpful to my partner, also online accounts are slow and can be a pain in rear!

Anyone recommend any of the above for a switch? Its just my savings and debit account that i would look at switching. TV of savings £3500 but we add £500 a month each.

Thanks!

For £2500 savings Nationwide is the best.
I have never had any problems with their website.
Switching just because someone was rude is childish. If you are sure that you were right just complain instead.

For regular savings FD 6% regular saver is worth considering. You can just open another account instead of switching, but if you do switch you can get £125 bonus.

I'm also not sure that a rude employee warrants switching your bank, but if that is what you're concerned about, First Direct is probably your best bet.

Im going to switch from Halifax to Santander 123 as I will receive over £100 cashback a year and £45 tcb.

I have had an Halifax reward acc for years, each month I had a balance of over £2500 and an isa with £7000, Halifax offer me nothing.
LLoyds on the other hand offer me everything, credit cards, loans ect.. and all I have there is a vantage account with £6000 for the 4%

If I was you I would get a Santander acc as you will receive cashback on your bills and 3% interest on balance over £3000

I would go with Santander, 3% interest for £3,000+ balances and cashback on bills, TV etc so quite a decent account and I have found their service to be great and the staff in my local branch are very helpful.

Selecting a current account based on an anonymous poll is a bit foolish - - nobody knows what your requirements are, and what's more, you don't know anybody's motive for voting. I have not voted for those reasons, and I won't offer an opinion over and beyond thinking they are all much of a muchness.

Have you read the current account article on the main site? http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/compare-best-bank-accounts

    "Halifax offer me nothing"

Really? I got £100 for joining and £5 a month.

    That's £160 tax free for a year.

Every bank has at least one "rude, unhelpful" person working for them that's human nature. Don't leave the bank over one person, make a complaint. As for what bank account some of us on here have several bank accounts which we do not use for direct debits, standing orders which would appeal to you as you are just transferring only debit card and savings. With Lloyds Tsb and Bank of Scotland you only need to move a £1000 each month between account.

Agree with others that moving because you encountered a rude member of staff seems excessive. The bit that hasn't yet been mentioned is this...
also online accounts are slow and can be a pain in rear!

No bank's online banking will update as soon as you do a debit card transaction (presumably this is what you are referring to?) as it will be a few days before the retailer claims the payment.

If you are looking for decent online banking and/or mobile app, then stay well away from First Direct.

If online banking is important to you then you'll likely be disappointed if you move to Halifax. In my experience their online banking is slower to update and its also not as full featured. The thing I like about Nationwide is that between online banking and the deposit machines in branch you can do pretty much anything you need without having to talk to a person which is definitely not the case with Halifax.
