After 226 (edit: make that 228) posts things are bound to start being repetitive, with each 'side' reiterating earlier points made.

So, what's happening now? Are you:

    1) Starting another complaint with Halifax
    2) Asking the FOS to re-open the original case
    3) Instructing your legal team
    4) Going to the newspapers
    5) Something else

And to keep reading "giving a little extra help" is becoming a tad monotonous!

Thanks for asking. I have contacted the Online/ commercial director of Lloyds, who has passed my concerns on. I am waiting for a response from Halifax Executive Complaint team. It was promised yesterday or today, but didn't come. ( Another failed promise form the Halifax... but if they are considering my case, I can wait.) As for my next moves if nothing should come from that - it is perhaps wisdom at this point not to post them on a public forum.

Indeed. Imagine having lost £1000 to the people who give a little extra... and watching them crowing about how much they are helping the poor, oppressed grafter on telly every night...

But yup, this thread has seriously run out of juice. It has been useful for me though, especially stuff like receiving the T& c's from opinions4u, and the links to the web archive. I couldn't get anything like that from the bank...

The reason Halifax gave such good interest rates is because they wanted to attract higher earners, instead of floundering as the poor people's bank.

    Why do you think that?

Maybe they offered a decent rate simply to get some cash in. Not everyone will want to remove it in one go, so some could even be used for lending. Now there's no need for it.

If they wanted higher earners, then surely they would be placing a minimum balance, like £1000 or so.

Perhaps the chance of an ex gratia has receded now

Wouldn't be sure about that. If I worked for Halifax customer services, I think I would happily make an ex gratia payment so this guy would stop wasting my time!

What is it with you guys?

Could this not be what is it with you? It's clear this is your fault, why can't you just accept that?
  • I don't quite get why you're so hung up by the banner.

I, like you, am quite confident it just said "Earn 2.80% AER variable for 12 months with our Web Saver Reward." It probably also mentioned bank account customers get 3%.

I'm quite sure it didn't mention anything about the application process so why are you harping on about it.

Thanks for the update, if you can ideally keep the reporting to actual progress in either direction rather than they didn't respond to my email that would be a lot easier for us to follow and assist :)

For those of us who want to assist, rather than those who just want to say you are stupid and go away now.

Some of us out there believe you that the screen shots were different inside your current customer internet banking helping lead to your error. While I don't personally believe it was a scam, I do think Halifax was misleading and certainly should have provided the information you requested for your complaint.

We await to hear what the outcome of your efforts will be.
