Why should one shop be any different.
Because they offer the legal minimum.. the others offer more.

All of this applies to buying at a distance not from a store.halibut2209 wrote: »http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/action/how-to-cancel-a-contract-without-being-penalised/

There is no cooling off period for goods bought in store as fosterdog has previously mentioned.
http://www.which.co.uk/technology/phones/guides/mobile-phone-problems/your-mobile-phone-rights/If you buy your mobile in a high street shop
If you buy from a high street shop, you don't automatically have any cancellation rights if there's no problem with the handset or mobile service. Some shops may voluntarily offer return policies.0 -
All sales should be considered final, unless advised otherwise.
The bit after the comma is the important bit.
Most legislation does not list all the things that do not apply, so it will be difficult to find anything that says specifically "you do not have a seven day cooling off period when buying in a shop".
OP, when you phoned Carphone Warehouse and others, and they all told you that they had a cooling off period, did you specifically ask if that cooling off period was applicable to in-store purchases?0 -
Act within the cooling off period
If you want to cancel a credit agreement, the Consumer Credit Act gives you a 14-day cooling off period to cancel the agreement.
If you entered into the contract at home, your place of work or during an excursion you have a seven-day cooling off period.
If you contract for a service over the phone or online, the cooling off period starts the day after you agree to go ahead with the service.
If you want the service to begin straight away, you waive any cooling off rights.
OP, did your daughter walk out of the shop with an active contract?
