  • Morning. I can get as far as Create an empty library at the new location but when I click OK I get ERROR No location selected. I presume I need to type something in the box - but what?
There is a browse button at the right of the new location box, Select say your C drive and click new folder call it NewCablibre (or ClairaBook or fred)

  • Morning, Let's try something first then ....
In calibre goto the calibre (library) and select create/switch library , select create an empty library at the new location. That then gives you a nice shiny empty library.
When that is done you get a blank library.
Now Goto Add Books and select Control Adding Books
Tick the Automerge function and it should say Ignore Duplicate Incoming
    Save(apply) that then
go to Add Books from Directories including Sub Directories (One book per directory) and select the file on the Pendrive ....Hopefully That should give you 1 copy of each book (note he says Hopefully:cool:)

Almost there debitcardmeyhem. It is doing it but taking absolutely ages. I will update you when its finished (only 4% so far):)

What I'm now wondering is if I have accidentally created two folders of the majority of my books?

Quite possibly and would explain all the duplicates :D

No worries though, go with creditcardmayhem's plan and then hopefully it will be all sorted.

I think you have sorted me. How can I thank you both? I'm eternally grateful for your patience and time.

Dare I ask one last question? Can I now delete the other folder that had all the extra books in from both the laptop and the pendrive or will that mess things up again? I could leave it but it's using up so much memory.

Now, what are you like with android phones, I have just acquired my first one, replacing a Nokia brick...oh, and Windows 8?? Haha. Only joking. I'll take my time, read and learn but, NEVER just have a go again when I don't know what I'm doing. Promise.;)

    Yay :j
And you've done really well :)

So if you now have 2 folders in your Calibre Libraries - one with your shiny new library and one with the dusty old one, then yes you can delete the folder for the old one. Do double check first with Windows Explorer that your new library has all the authors/books folders in it and then bin the old one

Huh how much space , how many books ? How big is your harddrive ? How many questions can a man ask in 1 go ?
I have 500+ books and only using 1/2 GB.

But yes you can delete the other one since you now know how to recreate it :rotfl::rotfl:

Hmm - I had no idea how big my harddrive is. So, I've checked and its says 452 GB ??? Its just what the salesman talked me into...

Yes, well, I wouldn't go as far as saying that I know how to recreate the library. I certainly couldn't do it again without referring back to your post. I'm going to save this thread so that I can revisit if, heaven forbid, I ever get into such a mess again.

Well done anyhow, Oh as for the android phone there is a neat little app for ebooks called Aldiko (just use the free one you may get an ad or too but hey it's free) If you use Calibre and Aldiko you can use calibre as a "library" and your phone as a "library card" to get the books , it is under Connect/Share in calibre , and you can always ask here for help if needed, but I am holiday for the next 3 years
