Help to uninstall Calibre

Basically there's stuff in your libraries folder that the database doesn't know what to do with
I'm just deleting everything as you suggested before, the books are not being deleted from Calibre then I'll do another back up. I do have more than one copy of some books on Calibre now though, do you know how to check for this and remove them please?0 -
Close Calibre and start it up again and see if it correctly displays after that. I don't understand why you have multiple copies, something is not happy somewhere
If you go into windows file explorer and manually navigate to the Calibre Libraries folder, there should be a folder with the name of the library you created, with a folder for each author and a sub-folders for each title, which are created when you click Add Books from within calibre. Do you have any duplicates in there? Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
Yes I do. Each author has two folders one with their name and one with a line between the names like this
Child, Lee
Child_Lee
Calibre is just the same on restarting.
I have to go to bed now - maybe we can continue this tomorrow? Once again thanks for your patience and help.0 -
Are the books exactly the same in both folders or is it different books in each folder?
I do have a few authors who show 2 folders like yours but it's different books in each folder and so I have no duplicate books in Calibre. When I run a library check, I just get a message that the info in the database matches the files in the library. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
And yep, no problem trying to sort his out tomorrow
Edit: I don't feel like I'm being much that help though seeing as it's still not behaving as it should :rotfl:Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
Hi again, where is your backup and how did you create it? You could do a switch library and create another new one, then add books from the backup directory and see how we go on with that (you may some duplicate messages etc) but nothing is insurmountable I hope ... I will pop in again tomorrow but Yoilna may sort you out first4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Yeah I was wondering about the backup too.
Clairabella, you said that you were installing Calibre on a new computer so presumably you still have your library on your old computer? And you've had no problems with that one? by that I mean all your books are there, and only showing one copy of each?
In which case, you could do a *fresh* copy of the whole Calibre Libraries folder from the old computer, and then on the new computer delete the existing Calibre Libraries folder and replace it with the one you just copied. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
You are both been a great deal of help. I wish I'd asked here before I tried to do anything myself. Mobileread forums tend to direct you to the Calibre instructions which are great if you have some prior knowledge but for numpties, they are not really helpful.
Oh, goodness, I have totally messed up  As my first laptop (now deceased) was dying, I backed up the library onto a pendrive. I had already backed it up on this pendrive a few months before. When you copy and there is already a copy you get a few choices what to do. I just chose one but didn't really understand what it meantWhat I'm now wondering is if I have accidentally created two folders of the majority of my books? Are you now rolling your eyes with despair?
I'm not going to do anything now till I get advice from you guys but, how about if I go through the Calibre library folders and delete the second copy of each folder (yes, they do appear to hold the same books)? I could then delete the library back up totally from the pendrive so that I cant mess up when I back it up. Then uninstall Calibre and the library folder as well as all those hidden bits, delete absolutely everything from this laptop and start all over again? Does this even make sense?0 -
Morning, Let's try something first then ....
In calibre goto the calibre (library) and select create/switch library , select create an empty library at the new location. That then gives you a nice shiny empty library.
When that is done you get a blank library.
Now Goto Add Books and select Control Adding Books
Tick the Automerge function and it should say Ignore Duplicate Incoming
Save(apply) that then
go to Add Books from Directories including Sub Directories (One book per directory) and select the file on the Pendrive ....Hopefully That should give you 1 copy of each book (note he says Hopefully:cool:)4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Morning. I can get as far as Create an empty library at the new location but when I click OK I get ERROR No location selected. I presume I need to type something in the box - but what?0
