My pressure is a god send! Its great for things like stews and casseroles because you can just leave the stuff in there and 8 hours later its done, ideal when I am working days at the hospital. You can get them quite cheap nowdays too so worth every penny in my opinion.

Ok I might be confused but I thought a pressure cooker cooked more quickly so a stew would be done in less time. I have a slow cooker and tried the leaving it for a day whilst I work and find everything a bit bland an not as nice as stuf cooked in the oven

    Hi rach,

I would definitely recommend one. Potatoes are boiled in a matter of minutes. Tough meat is tenderised in half an hour. Well worth it im my opinion. These threads may help:

You definitely don't want to leave anything in a pressure cooker for eight hours!

I love mine, I use it a lot for curries as well as cooking dried pulses, rice pudding, hams, soups, all sorts really. I wouldn't be without it. I'd definitely choose it over the slow cooker.

Have to say I don't tend to use it for casseroles much though, although I don't really know why.

I've never had a pressure cooker. My SIL used to use one for cooking veg and Xmas puds, but can you use it for anything else? I'm not sure if its just a fast steamer or it can actually make stew or soups or anything. Can someone enlighten me please?

i mostly use mine for soups. lentil soup in about 5 mins, veg in about 7, proper scotch broth in 20 mins.

i also cook a gammon joint in mine too which is ace with honey! about 45 mins for one to feed about 4 people with left overs.

  • I make stews - cheap meats like shin beef are lovely in the p/c. I do the meat first for about half an hour then add whatever veg I have in, also things like pearl barley or even rice (but make sure you add extra water for that). I'm on my own now but still make a family sized stew and freeze what I don't eat first time.

We use ours for chicken quite a lot. It keeps the meat moist but cooks it in no time at all.
I am firmly across the line. I won't impose my values on you if you keep away from mine.

My mum uses hers for stews, curries, and bolognese. I think using it for curry and bolognese is because she works late and likes to have something ready waiting for the lads when they get in from work at tea time.
